Believe it or not, there’s a huge difference between living with an abnormal period as opposed to living with a normal period. The unhealthy normalization of period pain by our society leads to women that struggle with painful conditions to suffer in silence. Which impacts the quality of life, reproductive health, fertility, and mental health. That’s why in today’s video I want to break down these myths and stereotypes by discussing what makes an abnormal period different from a normal, healthy period and why it’s important to advocate for your health if you’re struggling with debilitating period pain.

It’s important to note that I am not a doctor but I am a Women’s Health Blogger and I’ve personally struggled with feminine health issues, painful periods, infertility, and endometriosis. My quest for answers led me to research and learn because I wanted to understand more about what was going on with my body and take charge of my health and well-being. The information I provide in my videos is not meant to diagnose but to create awareness regarding common women’s health, vaginal health, infertility, and anti-aging. So, please make sure you consult with your doctor and use the information I provide here as a resource where you can get the additional information and have an open dialogue with your doctor to get a proper diagnosis and determine what would work best for you.

My mom suffered from heavy periods and it seems like I took after her and I'm her only daughter. I was also diagnosed with pcos, hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's. It seems like as I got older and now that my Cycles are every month instead of 6 or 3 months, the pain has gotten worse. I have experienced extreme stomach upset with what you mentioned with diarrhea, nausea and feeling a fullness and even with losing an appetite. The cramping and the body aches are really intense and the pills do help but then after a couple of hours later it goes back to that. I think the worst part is when I am PMSing with me going through extreme depression anxiety and crying spells where it disrupts me but then when once I get my period I go back to being my normal self. Also my periods get very heavy where I have to wear diapers and a pad so I don't stain the bed sheets. I know that that is not normal and I hope I don't become like my mom to the point where I have to have a hysterectomy to stop my period. It actually feels like having the flu as well which apparently it is called the period flu and also the condition that it seems like I have is pmdd which is a severe version of PMS which describes my exact symptoms although they say that anxiety meds and birth control help but they really don't help the full problem but most doctors don't even know what pmdd is and so they just say you have anxiety and just take some antidepressants.

I agree most people don't take you seriously when you're in pain. I suffered with abnormal & heavy periods for years due to a cyst in one of my ovary, fibroid tumors, polyp and scarring as well as a small cervix (size of a pin). In 2020, I was approved for a charity application at a hospital (Duke University) and was recommended by my GYN to do a D&C, hysteroscopy, biopsy and IUD (Mirena) to help widen my cervix along help stop the heavy bleeding and severe pain. I thank God I didn't have to do a hysterotomy. Today, I no long suffer with severe pain and heavy bleeding (although I do not have a period every month). Anyway, I am still going through other health issues and working with a GI, doctor and dietician to have a healthy life.

I'm glad you didn't have to have a hysterectomy either and glad you were able to get help. It's so unfortunate that no one takes pain seriously and you have to suffer for so long before you can get help.

Love this video!! So helpful!! 🥰 It’s so sad that people did not take you seriously when you were trying to tell them about your pain. It’s so sad to hear that.

Yes it’s so frustrating if you’re a woman in pain people don’t want to listen or help you find relief. I hope and pray fewer women have to face this struggle. May it end with me.

Same. I'd have to miss a whole week of school. I told my mom to take me to a doctor every month and she said I was being "over dramatic". I told her it was making me puke all day and couldn't eat almost anything. But no one listened. I can't stand being on my period. I wish I could make it go away. Forever.
