After the unfortunate incident with the ceramic coating on the headers catching fire in the Ferrari F430 project car, it was time to clean up the car. First I got all the panels cleaned up and removed the soot. Then I got my new Fabspeed headers, and this time went with header blankets! I think anybody with half a brain can see this is a great car, and brought to another level by Dan's hard work and attention to detail. The fire was extremely minor, and we have seen all the damage, which can and will easily be remedied. I really hope Dan doesn't lose out significantly from this unfortunate event.

The car caught on fire within minutes of its first test drive. Who knows what will happen within 500 miles under new ownership. Sadly, this might have scared quite a few people.

While you did get fucked with the coating, it is still the best solution for heat management and HP gain. But blankets and wraps are still great. Glad to see everything worked out, a channel like yours deserves the best!

Dan, really enjoy your channel. I have a 458 and some other things in garage. you are incredibly relaxed and adult about this entire fire on the headers thing. I would of lost my mind personally and dropped at my favorite shop and billed the you know what out of the powder coating people. I mean pull the motor, detail, inspect all the wiring and whatever else I could stick them with for the idiotic job the did. Your a good dude and I hope they appreciate your disposition in this situation.

This is why I wrapped my headers in Asbestos, sure it was hard to get. Sure, you need to use a respirator and a full body suit. But as my dad once said before cancer took him at 41, the old ways are the best.

The headers are great with the blankets, but all this can be eliminated by going with Tubi Style headers which are made like the factory headers and have the heat shields like factory headers. Maybe for a future project.

I had those header blankets disintegrate totally after a few hundred miles of driving. The springs were all loose as well and my headers were ceramic coated. Turns out the ceramic coating does very little to lower the heat.

Not seeing any reason at all that headers need to be replaced. Regardless of whether they are new used, prep for coating is some combo of media blast, aircraft stripper, or baking. I have used Jet Hot / HPC in Oklahoma City to re-ceramic several things after I modified headers for O2 sensor or new flange. No issue to remove the regular powder coat they prolly put on yours and recoat.

I’ve been here before! Those headers were powder coated not ceramic coated! Once you burned it off with the propane or map gas torch that’s all I needed to see. Sorry for what happened though.

I am slightly confused I have been a mechanic for many years, and I have done many after markets things, including installing headers (of course never on a ferri but that is besides the point). I have never once done something where when I was done I said you know what when I start this thing it is going to smoke, and that is perfectly normal! To me if a car is smoking you got issues. In fact the only time I can think of that I started a car and saw smoke and didn't immediately stop was my 94 ford ranger, and that was because the valve covers were leaking, and it had been sitting several months.

Lightly wave a blowtorth over the scratches your scraper made on the undertray from scraping off the melted ceramacoat. The scratches will gloss back over again. It'll never be perfect but will look miles better.

Does this car have the Ferrari sport exhaust? Looks like it. I didn't realize that the vacuum lines were underneath on it. My vacuum lines are easily accessible from the top, which is nice.
