I won a competition playing this piece once! It remains one of my favorite sonatas to play. Years ago I was in Croatia and I attended mass with some friends ... the theme from the first movement was the music they sang in church! It was an amusing surprise.

The "Theme" in the first movement of this sonata is based on a plainchant setting of the "Kyrie" from the Latin Catholic Mass.
