Think your thinking of the Rose Morris ones for export - but there were non export F holed 325s and the F holes were either "one o'clock" or "two o'clock" (rare) - this one has the one o'clock F hole. There were some with no F hole 325s, too. 🎸

No. That's a US 325 in fireglow with an f hole instead of no sound hole at all. The 1996 model, imported into the UK by Rose Morris in 1964 featured all black knobs. Rosetti is the current UK importer.

My dream guitar - I never understood why John never really played the fireglo Rick. He only used it for a couple live shows while his black one was being repaired and immediately went back to the black 325. He was never seen playing the fireglo 1996 again and gave it to Ringo around 1968, who sold it a couple years ago.

@julkitan3017

Yeah that's true, seems he did not feel much connected to this instrument. His rickenbacker era was nearly "over" anyway, after nearly 5 years playing the 325, soon the Epiphone Casino turned to be his main instrument for the following 5 years, surely he wanted something different and new. He never appeared again on stage with one of his Rick, sadly. Although it's said he used his original 325 during double fantasy studio sesssions, in 1980.

The story I heard was that John bought this and Paul bought the Hofner 500/1 because they wanted to “look bigger” on stage, so smaller instruments. Plus Paul liked that the Hofner was symmetrical so he could flip it over to lefty without it being awkward. Reverb just did an article on the Beatle’s gear in Hamburg... some interesting stuff... apparently they never did finish paying for their famous guitars and amps before they left for England!

2 years passed but never too late to right some myths and misconceptions - or IS it??? That model was distributed in the UK for Rickenbacker by distributor Rose-Morris and had an f-hole to distinguish it from the standard 325s with no soundhole or the Ric 'Cat Eye' hole of the full size models. John's was given to him by the company in 64 and used as a touring back-up. He got his first Rick 325/Capri in Hamburg because like a lot of art school musicians he was into jazz and a favorite band was George Shearing, whose guitarist Toots Theilemans played Rics. This was one leftover from a trade show and so he snagged it on the spot.

By 1967 the Rose Morris supply was sold and they all had black knobs whereas this one has the later chrome top ones, although that part has fallen off the blend knob. 325's could be ordered in fireglow and with f holes so I think this isn't an export model.
