North Captiva Island is growing...

North Captiva Island, off the southwest coast of Florida, is reaching out into the warm Gulf waters. Steady south and westerly winds have created a long, thin sandbar that provides visitors an unusual new nature path. We don't know how long it will last, but the ever-shifting sands of our island never cease to amaze us.

That's remarkable! We were just there last fall, on that very beach, and it looked nothing like that!

When was this taken? Last time I was there, two years ago, the sandbar was mostly not there.

There was a hurricane

@@alexanderredlin8493 The Hurricane did not cause this. This sand bar just popped up recently. It happens every now and then. A few years ago, we had one pop up for a while further to the south. In the 80s, we had one that went out and mirrored the shoreline for an incredibly long distance ( wish I was here for that!).
