Hey, do you plan to do videos on broader BC things? I know you did the video on the BC election but one on the BC wildfires could be cool!
@joshmessmerthisherevancouv29967 жыл бұрын
I'd like to do videos like that, but as it stands now, I only have so much time to put into these, and I wouldn't have anything of value to add to the stories about the fires. A video about pipelines or the Site-C dam would have a pretty higher probability of being made though. I also plan to do a video about the various areas of BC (lower mainland, okanagan, kootenay, etc). And I'm thinking that for the Municipal Elections I'll cover Vancouver - of course - and the bigger cities in the Lower Mainland (Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, maybe coquitlam, Langley just because I live there and would be doing the research anyway), but also some of BCs largest cities (definitely Victoria and Kelowna, and then maybe Kamloops, Prince George, and maybe somewhere else that has some sort of key issue in the election that I'm interested in), but I'd also have to familiarize myself with municipal borders outside of the lower mainland to know if that would be worthwhile or not. And if I'm traveling, I might decide to do highlight videos about cities and areas, and the things that I find interesting or nice about them. I'd eventually like to be in a position where I could get out 2-4 videos a week about various topics in Vancouver and all of BC from politics to developments to history to showcases of nice places, but that would require a team of people, and I'm in no way equipped to do that right now. Not even close. But maybe someday you'll be able watch a This Here Victoria, and This Here Okanagan. This Here BC, maybe.

Just want to say thank you for making these videos. As a WA resident, it immensely helps me grasp the issues and concerns of my northern neighbor without relying on the CBC, who often assumes I already know the basics of Canadian (BC) history/politics.

Good idea to put elevated walkway there. This area will be flooded every few years in coming decades or the century, good historic site for the future. That's a future-proof plan!

Really been diggin' these the last few months. Well structured. Nice graphics, detailed but still basic enough to not be overwhelming (except maybe for dramatic/comedic effect... affect?) . Been helpful tool for me to use to explain things to others where my own words and thoughts are less clear. Been living out of Van a couple years now but coming back in the near future. Nice to see what's goin' on. Aaaaanyway, I did a Patreon thing, even though it's not much.

Bro you have not spent enough time around andy livingston if you think extending the park under the viaduct would solve anything. The skate park is a public space, sure, so you could say the public park space extends to under the bridge, except the ONLY people who step foot in that part of the "park" are skaters and homeless people.

I heard they want to tear down the skatepark do you have any information if they are or aren't great video by the way
@joshmessmerthisherevancouv29965 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, when the viaducts go down so will the skatepark. They’re building another one though within the new park. Which is kind of shame since the current one is so nice and world-renowned, but it wouldn’t be as interesting anyway without the viaducts to shelter it

What about all of the drug use in this area? When I was a kid I would play soccer at Livingston - the parents of the first game of the day had to walk the field and pick up used needles.
@joshmessmerthisherevancouv29967 жыл бұрын
Harrison.L That'll definitely still be a problem, but I think it's more of Vancouver problem in general than with the park. With the new developments in the area and in Chinatown, the area will get a lot a nicer (so that's good for the park), but that'll only serve to push in on struggling people and make it even harder to find a safe, inexpensive place to grow and get better. Definitely a very big issue, with - as of yet - no big solution.

4 years later and nothing has happened yet. And since most of the new ideas aren't directly under the viaducts I'm not sure what the hold up is. And why are the areas under the viaduct all empty anyway. It rains here all the time, put something under there other than gravel. I was kind of into this idea initially but it is kind of hilarious that they want to move the traffic down to ground level and make pedestrians walk up and over a bridge instead. I'd rather keep the traffic up there and walk or bike to false creek on flat ground honestly.

your point about the bridge is perfect, before you were saying it I was thinking the same thing: why dont they just adapt the bridge into something unique. Even for what it is, it caries some historical weight. Why do we tear everything down in canada, its insane.

When you discus the entertainment district, please delve into the loss of the “view corridor” from the south side of Science World looking over to the light show at BC Place. This is Vancouver’s iconic postcard photo spot and we are planning on blocking it with high rises to the waters edge. Our Eiffel tower will be no more. Thank you.

I say tear them down. The city was never built the way it was intended to use the viaducts. Stats have shown they are not being used nearly to their capacity, and they take up a massive amount of room and make it difficult to build anything around them. There is a huge amount of land down there that is not really being used for anything. I think the possibilities are much greater without them than with them.
@pm66135 жыл бұрын
At present there are 2 routes to get across this area. With the new plan, Pacific becomes THE 2-way street. When there are traffic issues, or even stadium events, the traffic is significantly compromised. This will be disastrous. I also think that the viaducts divide the areas up quite nicely. And all of these roads DO operate close to capacity, unless you think idling at traffic lights is the norm. They should keep all these roads AND implement constantly-flowing traffic circles. You should also really find out IF the viaducts are indeed seismically unsure. You talk too fast wile you keep switching images. Slow down.
