North Karanpura Thermal Power Project, is an ambitious and pioneering venture by NTPC in Jharkhand. This project, with a capacity of 3x660 MW, marks NTPC's first thermal power initiative in the state, aimed at fostering regional development. The foundation stone was laid by Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee on March 6, 1999, in undivided Bihar, highlighting its significance for the area's growth.
But what sets the North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project apart is its strategic location in a vast coal-bearing region. The project features a unique 8 KM cross-country tube conveyor to transport coal directly from the mines to the plant, enhancing operational reliability. As India's first power station near a coal mine to utilize supercritical technology, it sets new standards in environmental sustainability.
Equipped with supercritical, Air-Cooled Condenser (ACC), technology this power station reduces water consumption by a staggering 30.5 MCM, equivalent to the daily water supply of approximately 15 lakh people.
The project commenced commercial operations with its #first 660 MW unit on March 1, 2023, followed by the #second unit on March 20, 2024. This transformative initiative promises to boost Jharkhand's development and set a benchmark for future projects.
