Love Bart's videos but it's kinda funny how they discuss government propaganda like it's something unique to North Korea. This video is sponsored by the South Korean government, it is a piece of propaganda! I don't know about Yuna, she doesnt seem like a zealot, but defectors have been coached by the KCIA and are able to make a career out of spreading propaganda about North Korea. I'm not making any value judgements here about North Korea, just saying they're not uniquely evil in their use of propaganda and we should take the testimony of these defectors with a grain of salt. Her father was a military general but she wasn't able to move freely around North Korea? Maybe someone can explain this to me but it already seems like thats not right.

Heel bijzonder om te zien, ik ben. Zelf begin dit jaar in de DMZ geweest (zuid Koreaanse kant) het blijft surealistisch om te zien. Ik sou graag eens met je vriendin zitten om gewoon te horen hoe het er daar aan toe gaat. Mijn vrouw komt uit zuid Korea en heeft zelf ook nog nooit een noord Koreaanse ontmoet.

나는 북조선 국경의 인근 지역에 살고 있습니다. 북조선은 80년대말 90년초에 소련이 붕괴기에 들어서면서부터 거의 전시상태의 시대를 최근까지 살아왔다고 봅니다. 북조선은 처참하게 가난하고 낙후하던 시절 일본 식민시대의 종말과 함께 그 시기 초강대국이였던 소련의 전폭적 지원을 받고 같은 진영이던 중국의 협조까지 받아 수립된 정권이였고 이는 정권생명력이 완고할수 있었던 이유를 설명해주고 있다고 여깁니다. 북조선이 지독한 가난을 겪으면서도 국제사회의 고립과 봉쇄를 맞이하게 된데에는 이러한 정치 역사적 배경이 있는 한편 또 다른 면으로는 중국의 강력한 정치 문화적 영향력으로부터 오는 위협감에 대한 저항, 구 소련 정치 지배와 통제 영향력으로부터의 완전한 자주적 독립 욕구, 남북전쟁 발동에 있어서의 명분 정당화의 수호, 민족 역사사명적 가치를 찾고자하는 등의 이유가 있었다고 보고 있습니다. 그리고 제2대 통치자의 개인성향과 정치적 역량, 인류 철학적 가치관등 요인과도 연관이 있다고 생각됩니다. 무조건적인 적대정책과 경명, 멸시의 태도는 희망적인 결과를 얻어내기 어렵다고 생각합니다. 어찌됐든 모든 상황이 좋은 방향으로 흘러갔으면 좋겠네에. 나의 댓글을 읽으시고 다른 견해나 지적할 부분 있다면 답글 주시면 감사하겠습니다. 그럼.....좋은 하루 되십시오! 봄빛.

this was a great program, but really, none of it seems bizarre and strange if you are more deeply sensitive to what happened to them during the Korean war, and how brave they fought for their country, led by Kim Il Sung. Try to do an interview with Bruce Cumings before he gets too old. He's fantastic.

Great Video as always, Bart! but 한가지 아쉬운게 있어요. 09:15 Pyongyang Cold Noodles? does it means 평양냉면? If it is what I think, It'd be better if you wrote it 'Pyongyang Naeng-myeon'. (or something like that in that manner, you know.) You know, some people still says 비빔밥 as mixed rice, 뼈해장국 as backbone soup... etc...😮‍💨 I feel very sad about this. Yes, Korean ppl are so polite they try to explain everything in English, often asks like '떡볶이가 영어로 뭐야?' '해물파전 영어로 뭐라고 하지?'😂 but... there are no such thing like 해물파전 in English. 냉면 of course. You know, Pizza is Pizza in every corner on this planet, Sushi is just called sushi by every one in the world, not like 'Japanese raw fish meat' or something. I thought you would aware of this because you're not a Korean guy like I said before😅 So If you don't mind, I hope you consider about it. Some of what this lady says, she has clearly learned while in the south! You can also sense lots of bias towards favoring where she is living now, probably to please her listeners. By asking the right questions you could probably even make her praise South Korea and it's regime. Just like in the North, only the opposite way round! Ideas that focus on diverting people are in themselves fundamentally bad. I also find your usage of the word "provocations" a bit provocative... Remember, the North usually just respond to actions taken by the South or it's ally... I guess you also have an idea who really finance the balloons sent to the North... And why they spend that money... (Answer: Just to alienate the two Koreas against each other).

I believe that South Korea should not always take a hardline stance against North Korea, but I absolutely disagree with the idea that whenever North Korea provokes South Korea, the cause always lies with South Korea and its allies. During President Kim Dae-jung's administration, South Korea showed the warmest attitude toward North Korea in history, yet North Korea still caused the Battle of Yeonpyeong. During President Lee Myung-bak's administration, although the government was indeed more hostile toward North Korea compared to before, North Korea shelled Yeonpyeong Island without any previous definitive military actions from South Korea. Even if South Korea slightly displeased North Korea, it cannot be said that North Korea's attack on South Korean civilian areas was a justified retaliation. You mentioned that North Korean defectors might be forced to speak ill of North Korea, but I'm not sure if that's necessary. Even if any defector is asked about their home country, they would likely disparage it to justify their own decision. Moreover, it's true that North Korea is far more backward and lacks freedom compared to South Korea, and if that defector is from a region other than Pyongyang, it's even more likely that they genuinely feel this way. So, I don't see why they would need to be coerced. Most importantly, the core point is that the author is "Moranbong Band HD". LOL If you are residing in North Korea or are a North Korean dispatched overseas, perhaps this could also be considered a form of private inter-Korean exchange. Just as it is everywhere people live, there will be daily life there, and the people living there will develop a love for their place. However, this fact does not give you an excuse to distort reality, especially if you consider yourself a 'scientific socialist' and a strict 'materialist'. I simply wish you good meals and a comfortable life.
