As a surfer of 30 years I'd highly disagree. Generally greedy jerks that think they are way cooler than non surfers just for participating in a sport. Most of my freinds are non surfers or guys at a learner or intermediate level (just surf for fun). Upper level and semi pro guys are usually horrible to be around.

I remember going to Hawaii for the US amateurs and one Hawaiian kept dropping in on me at Sandy Beach on the south shore and I understood the pecking order and the local thing but it was just rude and I said to him are you gonna let me catch a wave and are you going to kick my ass for asking this question and he laughed and he said “because you’re funny I’ll let you surf today but tomorrow, go back to California bra”. I told him that I was from South Carolina but I was actually flying the next day to California for the NSSA championships, he laughed and didn’t drop in on me for the rest of the session. Good ol days...
@honeybeeproductions52634 жыл бұрын
I feel like dropping in on anybody is rude. Like if they catch the wave shouldn't it be theirs? I'd be annoyed if I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to surf in Hawaii and some salty local kept dropping in on me, even after respecting local rules and the pecking order. I'm new to surfing tho and from SC too with tiny waves so I guess I'd be extra mad in that situation 😂

He's not really bein cocky about the kooks that come out at pipe. Pipe is an immensely powerful wave, and when someone drops in on you when your already ridin the wave, that can cause you to have to wipeout at pipe. And keep in mind the lip at pipe is thick and powerful and pipe breaks in 3-4ft of water over a reef with caves.
