I work for one of the 2 biggest beach renourishment contractors in the country. I can tell you what your seeing is a good thing. The dunes did their job. Studies from coastal engineers say sea walls and rock jetties create more erosion and rob down stream beaches of moving sand. Look at Daytona beach where the sea walls completely collapsed because once the water gets behind them it erodes worse. And lastly, dredged pumped sand always compacts better then sand that's dry and trucked in. My advice would be dredgevand fix the dunes make the beach higher and wider and in lousiana they planted sunflowers in their dunes because of their extremely strong root systems.

I'd still live there, been going to Wildwood since 1965. Planned on being a resident. Storms haven't kept me away, finances did.

Years ago 1980s when I used to go down every year, the beach was flat and if the ocean was high it would come up and flood the streets. They had no dunes in between like they do now. Also the beach used to extend out on 3rd street towards stone harbor. Now it cuts off at I don't know what street it is. ??? Can u tell me??It's sad to see the beach erosion like that but years ago it was like a mile to walk to the beach from the street. Wildwood always received all the sand From the beaches in the north when they has storms. They always had to dredge the inlet up near angelsea so the boats could get through. It's amazing how things change in 20yrs plus yrs. Hope it all works out!!

Back in the early 60's we use to stay at Beach Court & Beach Cove Hotels right off the boardwalk at 20th St. Water especially at monthly extra high tide would come past the boardwalk. Now water is so far away can not even hear the ocean. Can remember taking my 4 year son to far away ocean. Asked him if he was thirsty or had to go to bathroom. 15 minutes later as soon as we reached ocean told me he was thirsty. Had money but nobody was selling anything on the beach so spent 15 minutes walking back to hotel. As soon as he put his foot in the ocean had to go to the bathroom. Finally went back for him to use the bathroom then went into hotels pool. They had a tractor pulling guess it was a cart along some locations right off the boardwalk & dropping you off at the ocean back then but that weekday for some reason was not running. Wish we had pictures of the water coming past the boardwalk.

This should make for an interesting video if/when they rebuild the beach or add bulkheads. Thanks for the video and for supporting the Wildwoods.

Hello Joey, great video but it wasn't a full moon (Thank God) or the damage would have been worse.

Great vid, Joey! I always believed for years that Wildwood will probably have to do the same thing that Coney Island and Rockaway Beach in NY did. Build the jetties up and down the entire length. I know it's ugly and probably will destroy the great surf, but I really don't think that just putting up a bulkhead will do the trick.

Thanks Joey for as always another great Wildwood vidio. If global warming continues and enough ice me!it's at the poles then ocean levels will rise and wonder if there will be any shore resorts 50 to 75 years from now. Would cost too much to install sea walls around entire shore towns and have giant expensive pumps running 24/7.

@@derekmyers3258 'Over the past 100 years, global temperatures have risen about 1 degree C (1.8 degrees F), with sea level response to that warming totaling about 160 to 210 mm (with about half of that amount occurring since 1993), or about 6 to 8 inches.' NASA
