I love the way you’re using Southern locomotives way up there in North Yorkshire!!

The NYMR has used several Southern locos over the years. 30841 was a great favourite of mine before it morphed into 30825. I only had 30926 a couple of days.34101 was great but is languishing await completion of its interminable overhaul.Sidmouth spent many years stuck up the long siding, when it was finally sold I towed it to New Bridge for road transport to take it for restoration. Several Bullied Light Pacifics, orginal and rebuilt have done stints there not forgetting 80135 and 80136 which were built at Brighton.

The wonderfully relaxed sound steam locomotives have appeals to me!! I prefer steam over diesel any day of the week!!

It looks wonderful!! And that’s an S160, isn’t it? Glorious locomotive to travel behind and ride on the footplate of!!

The S160 is great to drive but you need to beware of the regulator handle quadrant, it's vey painful if you forget it sticks out at head height.

And the S160 presides over many steam locomotives!! It’s not quite the King of locomotives, which to me is the King Class, a GWR engine, but it’s most certainly the President!!

Personally, I’m not fond of it. The class just looks ugly, possibly because it’s an American design slightly tweaked to work in Britain, and the fact there are more of these preserved than many beautiful British locomotives is something of a shame.
