North Yorkshire Moors Railway Diesel Gala - 15/06/2024

Filmed on 15/06/2024. Since the new management of the NYMR, there has been some changes for 2024 including a few new events. One of which is a grand return for the NYMR. For the first time in 8 years, we see the return of the Diesels as the Diesel Gala returns.

Rather than riding on the trains, we decided to film all from lineside and from stations along the line. The NYMR aren't able to run special through services through to Whitby due to Sir Nigel Gresely LNER coaching stock being unavailable. Replacement buses are in operation for those wanting to continue to Whitby from Grosmont.
Starting from near Pickering, we see 47077 'Evening Star' makes its way to the carriage sidings where it will collect its coaches and take it to Pickering station. We see 47077 works 2G02 to Grosmont as it slows down to collect the token for the all clear through to Levisham. Next, we make our way up and along the line to Levisham station where we see 37418 slows to exchange tokens. 37418 is in place of Deltic 55009 due to its failure. Departing heading for Grosmont, we see 45108 as it works 2G04 making quite a speedy departure.
Making our way down the line towards Goathland just off the A169, we see the unusual double header of D9537 & D72628 thrashing nicely towards Pickering on 2P05. Working the opposite direction, we see 37418 coasts along as it prepares to stop at Goathland working 2G06. A worth while wait as we see 31128 & 31466 thrashing away working 2P07 towards Pickering. At Becks Bank, we see 37264 working 2A33 on the shuttle between Grosmont and Goathland. Next, and giving chase and nice thrash and clag is 45108 top and tailing with 47077 working 2P09 through to Pickering.
After a fuel stop and a late lunch, we make our way to Grosmont just in time to see the arrival of 31466 & 31128 to arrive in after working 2G10 from Pickering. Next, D9537 makes a fine departure as it works 2A35 through to Goathland. Double heading time as we see 37264 & 37418 makes fine passing Grosmont MPD working 2P13 through to Pickering. Back at Grosmont station, we see 47077 arrives after it worked 2G12 from Pickering. 47077 also makes its way to Grosmont MPD. We then see D9537 arrives after working 2G36 from Goathland.
We make our way briefly along the Esk Valley Trail towards Goathland as we see 31446 thrashes and climbs the 1 in 25 gradient on 2P15 to Pickering. A little further along the tail, we see 45108 makes its way towards Grosmont as it prepares for the 10 MPH speed limit working 2G14.
Finally, back along just off the A169 for a few scenes we film from the car window as the weather turned very British. We see 37418 & 37264 coasting along working 2G16 through to Grosmont. Not used much for this gala is D7628 thrashes along working 2P17 to Pickering. We make our way towards the bridge to see some more thrashing action of 20189, 20142 & 31466 makes the epic train combo working 2G18 to Grosmont. Our final train and with the driver putting on quite a show, we see 37264 working the final train of the day 2P19 through to Pickering. The driver put on quite a show and performance.
