This song is not only about de Sade, but about love and sex, the soul and the flesh. It offers a view into the period of time De Sade lived in, when sexuality was considered an affront to God, since the Church believed it denied the soul.
De Sade took that stance to the extreme, denying anything higher than sexual pleasure as false. So basically this song contrasts the strict, spiritual world of the Church and the debauched, amoral world of de Sade.

Mom played this over and over when I was 9 years old. It was the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard and I would ask her to play it again every time we were on the road. She passed away last year while I was living in Thailand and when I came back to pack her things and have her car detailed, this randomly came on through her CD player while I was in reminiscence of her. I dedicate this song to all the people in the USA. When I was a child, me and my parents emigrated to this country. We walked and rode buses from El Salvador to this country, after crossing the border, we hopped a taxi and the cab driver was playing this song and it stuck to my head all this years. Long story short, I am now a Doctor with two offices doing very well, we also travel the country offering medical help to people that dont have the means to pay for care. I was 45 when this fist came out. Loved it from the first time I heard it. The Gregorian Chant has always been very mystical and haunting. The sound of them singing in church echoing everywhere is totally captivating to me. Maybe it's my Italian, Catholic background, I don't know. Bringing it into a new Era at the time was quite daring. December 1990, I bought this on 7" vinyl, loved it so much, I went back and bought it on CD single and played it on repeat for months. ENIGMA were such a massive part of my formative years, aged 14 onwards, MCMXCad was my high school years, and The Cross of Changes got me through college. This and Deep Forest. Amazing times.

I used to put this in my walkman and solo hike through the desert late at night. Is eventually come a mountain top where I'd sit and watch the town sleep and listen to this album from start to finish. My only company was my dog. If you think this song sounds great here, go sit on a mountaintop late at night and listen to it there. The more remote the mountaintop, the more engaging the music becomes.
