Northbound- Ep 06 - Dalton Highway - Top of North America for the Pan-AM | Catastrophe in the Arctic

The Dalton Highway takes adventurous travelers and to the top of North America, Far above the Arctic Circle, to the oil company town of Deadhorse, Alaska, and Prudhoe Bay. This is the northern end of the Pan American highway, the world's greatest road trip from Deadhorse, Alaska, to Ushuaia, Argentina. This is also a destination for anyone who wants to get well off the beaten path and truly experience an adventurous vanlife. In a place where tourists don't venture, support for this journey is sparse, and basic services don't exist. You must be prepared for anything.
We made it all the way up to Deadhorse, but it might have been one of the most difficult weeks of travel in our 10-year road trip. It started with saying goodbye to our dog Tucker after 17 years. Then, we battled forest fires and smoke inhalation. Dust and smoke made us sick. Then, once we finally arrived in Deadhorse, everything got much worse....
The definition of Adventure is: "an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity." That is exactly what we get in this sixth episode of our Northbound series...

Thanks for sharing this. I drove my Jeep Wrangler from home in Charleston, West Virginia to Glacier NP, through Dawson City. Yukon and on to the Dalton Highway the first of September in 2022. I had planned the thing for years and while it was a nightmare mentally driving up and back on that damn highway, I had zero malfunctions. I was prepared as much as you were but no one carries an axle that's for sure. What happened to you all is the worst-case scenario for sure but clearly you managed it the best you could. I truly don't know what I would have done at Deadhorse if I had such a problem. I don't know crap about repairing my vehicle and I guess I would have just started trying to throw money at the problem. I fell into the Arctic Ocean on the bus tour and as I type this I'm sitting at my desk looking at one of the small rocks I picked up there. People keep telling me it was the trip of a lifetime- and it was awesome- but I'm far from done with my adventures. Best wishes to you all on your travels and maybe I'll cross paths with you one day.

I am so sorry for your loss… 😢 I recently lost my 15 y.o. dog so I can definitely relate to what you and your family are going through. She was my baby, my best friend and my traveling companion. I still miss her terribly… When I saw Tucker in your last video, he reminded me of my old gal. I recognized her demeanour on her last day, when it became clear that she had had enough. By the sounds of it, Tucker had a full life and a loving family. He will live on in your memories and in your heart. ❤️ 🐶
