Problem with trendlines is the arbitrary nature of the starting point, as you mentioned. I can easily draw an almost identical trend line starting from 1985, and hitting all the key inflection points (or slightly different but equally plausibly "meaningful" ones), but which shows we're still hitting it as resistance right now on a quarterly log chart of the SPX...

Exponential chart, eSignal, cannot duplicate your chart. Now if you want to use Deviation and prior 40 deviation bottoms, we are vastly over valued and due for correction...Take care.
