The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that four EF-1 tornadoes touched down in Northeast Ohio on Tuesday afternoon as severe storms made their way through the area.
Across Northeast Ohio, more than 200,000 people are still without electricity, including more than 55,000 in Cleveland alone. More of 3News' team coverage: www.wkyc.com/a...

I don't care what anyone says. First energy should have reached out to other states for help when this first happened. For those of you who have power count yourself lucky.

I think it might be time for government leaders to seriously make upgrading the electrical infrastructures a top priority because this major storms will only get worse and more destructive in the future. We need to better prepare and protect ourselves from future major natural disasters that hit our neighborhoods and cities like it did in this past few days. Be proactive and prepared in case of emergencies. Be safe 💯

It sure would be nice if CEI would provide a little more granularity about where they are working on restoring power and when those are can possibly expect power. The uncertainty is unnerving..

Does anyone find it strange that a blind man with a white cane is complaining about the pitch black and not being able to find his way down the stairs and out of the building? And, why is it that nobody has a flashlight? Especially since that function is built into just about every cell phone made these days.

Blindness is a spectrum. Most blind people have SOME vision, but it’s practically useless. Some people see through pinholes, some people can only perceive drastic contrasting shadows. Blind does not mean pure blackness or absolutely no vision at all.

@@giraffe1219 I do actually know that. I have a friend who is blind, but he can read a menu if he holds it about 3 inches away. He can see well enough to walk through a familiar area but to cross a parking lot he takes his wife's arm.

A few charged lithium ion power bricks isn't a bad idea either. Get a solid one for 40 or 50 bucks that can charge multiple phones and flashlights. We had no power, but the cell phone system still worked. Those power bricks were a help.

We should not have to resort to such tactics. First Energy should have updated and reinforced the grid long ago. And I refuse to be a cheerleader for the workers. They are doing the jobs they chose.

Do you believe in physics? If you don't believe in physics you're not worth my time because I won't try to prove physical laws to a wannabee sorcerer. If you do believe in physics I can lay down a concrete argument based on recorded phenomena of how light energy interacts with atmospheric CO2. In short, high frequency light (light with more energy, a more frequent and shorter wavelength) passes easily through CO2 without losing much energy, whereas low frequency light is more likely to be absorbed directly by CO2 as thermal energy, or to bounce off of a layer of CO2 and be reflected. It has been proved in labs that CO2 behaves this way when it interacts with light. Low frequency light is absorbed or reflected at a much higher rate than high frequency light. High frequency light from the sun enters earth's atmosphere from space, a small portion of that light energy is absorbed by atmospheric molecules into heat, lowering the overall average frequency of the light energy. A large portion of the light energy hits the earth surface, where a lot of it is absorbed as heat (and used to perform photosynthesis or charge solar cells, for instance) the light energy which is reflected off of the earth surface has a lower frequency. Remember, the higher the frequency the higher the energy, light hitting earth's surface deposits some of its energy into the earth as heat, so leaves with a lower frequency. This low frequency light struggles to get past atmospheric CO2, as discussed earlier. This causes the greenhouse effect, the greater the concentration of atmospheric CO2 and other greenhouse gasses (methane, for example), the less energy escapes to outer space and the greater the warming effect. The question, scientifically, is not whether it happens (we know it does from shooting light at CO2 and watching what happens), but the following questions: what are trends in atmospheric CO2 levels? How much of an affect does this trapping of light energy have on the overall amount of thermal energy in the planetary system? NASA and climatologists have done a lot of science on this, and we can see increases in both atmospheric carbon levels and temperatures starting from the industrial era. The earth is a huge system with a lot of variables, and correlation does not equal causation, however, we do know according to the physical evidence of interactions between CO2 and light that having more CO2 in the atmosphere WILL DEFINITIVELY increase the temperature of the system. The question, is to what extent. Physicists, chemists, ecologists, meteorologists, and archaeologists (not to mention climatologists) have put together a remarkably strong case for anthropogenic (man-made) global warming. I can provide the evidence for it in greater detail upon request.

@@miked7011 CO2 is a lagging indicator. It's weak compared to methane and water vapor. The big cause is the sun and magnetic field. You're not mitigating that.
