Northern Canoe Rescue Demo

Demonstration of Northern Rescue by Boreal River Rescue Instructors.
Many groups running Northern rivers choose to rig their gear into their canoes, either by securing with rope or webbing, or by using a canoe spray deck. Since there are no pools at the end of rapids, this helps prevent gear from getting lost -- it is easier to chase one boat down the river than a boat and several packs. It means, however, that the boat becomes too heavy to use a canoe over canoe rescue. This is where a Northern Rescue (aka rodeo rescue) comes in.

could you not self rescue from that point in the river?

Hi Mericus, this is a demo of a technique you can use on other rivers in various situations. It would usually be something you would have set up and ready to use when you have fully loaded canoes with spray decks on an expedition on a river with very continuous current.
