With Cardinals, the father is just as engaged with the feeding and care of the young as the mother is. He is also a loving, devoted partner to the Mrs., and mates for life.

Yes, and i witnessed something else not seen in this video. Before Mrs. Cardinal lay eggs, Mr. Cardinal feeds her wherever they fly together, he literally puts food in her beak when they find something and she opens her beak to accept the food he finds. Unbelievable.

amen. For those who dont know, Jesus will fulfill you more than anything in this world, I speak from experience (from when i did Romans 10:9-13), he loves you and wants to be in a meaningful (not romantic) relationship with you. :) “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:9-13 KJV “and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1:15 KJV If you want proof that Jesus and the Bible are true look a documentary called “Ron Wyatt discoveries 2022” on KZbin and a KZbin channel called Expedition Bible. They both examine archeological sites and discoveries that prove the Bible, and even reference secular sources. (Just don’t convert to 7th day Adventism after watching the documentary) And lastly if you don’t know the gospel and want to be saved search up “abc’s of Salvation Teenmissions” on Google and it should be the first or second result. When you click on it read the whole thing, and do what it says and have faith in Jesus while you are doing it, do not doubt, and if it is hard for you to do what it says, ask Jesus to help you, have faith that he will, and he will. @@ultraspinalki11 You do know that doing so requires months, maybe years of planning and consideration right? Cities don't expand willy-nilly. Great video. I love baby cardinals! A few years ago I saved an extremely young baby cardinal who happened to wander into the neighbor's yard and they had a really mean dog. We lured him over to our side of the fence and put him in a box. We carried him back to his nest in the rose arbor. And what did he do after that? Jumped right back out of his nest the little bugger. He wasn't nearly old enough to go out on his own but luckily his parents came back and he was fine and we got to watch him grow up in our yard. His name was Scrapper.

Most passerine birds do eat nestlings' poo during first days, chicks' intestine is not yet fully developed its flora, so the poo is still, well..., edible cause only part of it (mostly proteins) is actually digested by the chick in their stomach. And most of the birds do not have e.coli in their intestine at all, so generally speaking, 80% of bird's poo is sterile and odor-neutral until gets rotten by bacteria AFTER being disposed, e.g. potentially edible by other mammals/birds. Parrots often eat their own's poo as vitamin D3 source... Contrary, finches (Estrildidae) such as Zebras or Gouldians neither eat the poo of their chicks nor scrap it to keep the nest clean... OMG, how messy their nests look like after the breeding is hard to imagine...

Your shots are so rock steady, even using just a monopod. Hmm. I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

This is a really great video! It's amazing that they didn't have a problem with that big ol' camcorder (from their perspective, anyway) sitting in the tree next to their nest. How in the world did you get it up there? I mean did you have to climb a tree or was this a nest that was closer to the ground? I've been trying to get video of cardinals lately (I'm primarily a photographer) and it's so very difficult because they're so skittish. I located their nest, but it's about 30 feet high so I can't get to it to place a camera near it, unfortunately. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to capture a video like this, but until then, I'll definitely be enjoying yours. :)

Thanks so much! The nest was only about 6 ft (1.8 m) high and the camera about 4 feet away and zoomed in. I clamped a monopod to a 6 ft step ladder, plugged the camera into AC and let it run by itself for hours at a time. Then editing... Good luck to you!

The baby poop is in "fecal sacs". These are mucous sacks like disposable diapers. The first couple days the parents the sacs. After that they take the sacs out of the nest and drop them somewhere to keep the nest clean. When the babies start to fly their poop changes to the splattering bird poop that we all know and love to see on our car windows.

But they didn’t take them somewhere they ate them

•LilyTheCuteQueen• The birds eat them for the first few days because there’s no bacteria in them but after that they take them someplace else

great video! I was searching for any info on male cardinals, I found an injured one today. I don't know what happenned, but he has an injury and is blind in his left eye. I want to keep him long enough to let him learn how to get through life with one eye. the sounds from your video had him looking, and using that eye, which is good a good thing. I won't keep him long, and want to release him when all the Cardinals are out feeding so he can find his family. I tried to see if he would fly away, but he just sat on my finger. maybe tomorrow morning he will feel better, we can try again. nj hasn't got a wildlife rehab for birds in middlesex county, so I am on my own. these birds are so smart! so beautiful up close! thanks again for that video!

+David Brown this was months ago, and sadly, the bird must have had severe head injuries, the poor thing did not make it thru the night. he had some kind of a seizure. I was so sad. but thanks! I am not far from bridgewater, and you never know - there may come a time when I will need help with a bird again!

the first cardinal Ive ever seen built a nest literally feet above my front door yet I only saw it once or twice a year. Now certain animals and insects dont even appear in my city. No hawks, crows, jays, woodpeckers, gnats, fireflies, moths, butterflies, nor chipmunks. I use to love sitting on my porch cause I always saw a rare animal.

That is so beautiful. Mother animals never leave their children, even if they must be stressed with all those mouths to feed. They give birth and stay by their side until they are ready to part. ❤
