Emergency talks have been taking place in Northern Ireland, after yet another night of violence on a scale which police said they had not seen for decades. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis met leaders of the power-sharing executive to discuss the unrest, whilst the Stormont Assembly came together to condemn the violence and to support the rule of law.
In last night's clashes, a bus was set on fire and eight police officers were injured as they came under attack.

I'm not so concerned about name calling, it's more the delusion behind denying that this is tied to Brexit. Yes we left the EU and accepted it, but why can't people then accept the negative consequences of that decision. This is a very real one, among others.

The truth of the matter is Ulster Unionism has always been on the wrong side of history. They accept Democracy when it suits them and threaten violence if the outcome of that democratic result doesn't go their way. When the majority on the island of Ireland vowed for home rule, the Ulster-Unionists resisted an Irish parliament to be run by the Irish; even though Ireland was still in the UK. The Ulster-Unionists bit off more then they could chew and a good chunk of Ireland (26 counties) left the kingdom because the Irish who also identified themselves as British wouldn't meet the Irish Republicans half way. Partition happened because the UVF threatened a civil war within the UK. The reason why they were threatening violence was because in 1918, Ireland had a national vote called “the Irish general election”. The majority of the Irish people voted for independence. The minority in the North of Ireland who voted to remain in the UK got their wish. The Irish people got cheated out of their Democracy and the island was partitioned. The 26 Counties became what was known as the “irish free state” (later to be called the “Republic of Ireland” in 1949) and the North of Ireland had to rejoin the UK as a new entity known as “Northern Ireland” in 1922. The founding fathers of Ireland (the first and original IRA) had no choice but to accept the 26 county Irish free state treaty. Either they accepted it or the British empire would've blown Ireland off the map. British Gunship Diplomacy from their empire forced Ireland to surrender. Fast forward to today and you're seeing a repeat of history going in reverse. You're essentially witnessing karma in action. In 2016 the UK had a national vote on the UK leaving the EU: i.e *Brexit* The majority of the British people voted for independence The minority in Northern Ireland who voted to remain in the EU got their wish. The British people got cheated out of their Democracy and the Union has become partitioned. The British government voted for the sea border because they had no choice. Either accept the sea border (known as the Irish protocol) or risk diplomatic action from both the EU and USA. Ireland has the backing from an Irish lobby in Congress (from both the Democrats and Republican parties) and an Irish-American president. That's without 26 countries in the EU that's also backing up Ireland as well. The UK had no choice but to surrender Northern Ireland to the EU. It's also worth mentioning that the DUP voted for this protocol that has the UK partitioned. They're shifting the blame, deflecting responsibility and meeting up with sectarian loyalist paramilitaries - DURING A LOCKDOWN - and is stoking up all this tension. They're an absolute cancer to Northern Ireland.

Which was organised and collusion between the PSNI,Michelle O'Neill and Gerry Kelly to make arrangements for the funeral. Yet everyone else had to abide by the rules set in place. Bottom line is Community Workers and Youth Workers warned the Media and Politicians of the anger in the PUL community but no one listenend. Be it the Protocol which breaks the Belfast Agreement. Any "rioting" (protesting) on the 12th in the past decade is caused by sf suppressing cultural celebrations. E.g flag protests in 2012 and the Orange walks being banned in parts of Belfast. Don't go spewing this biased shite misinforming people to think its one sided both sides have done harm and committed atrocities in the past 50 years its a different time. Move on.

What riots were caused by nationalists groups not respecting the parades commission? The proplems with parades are literally with loyalist parades.

Bill Clinton was very important to the peace process and the Good Friday Agreement, there are people in NI that don't want peace, the DUP opposed the Good Friday agreement, they voted for Brexit because they thought a border would be put back in Ireland, it has backfired and now that have a border down the Irish sea and a possibility of a United Ireland referendum. They thought Brexit would put partition back in Ireland, instead, they have the protocol and border down the Irish sea separating them from the UK, how they fix that is anyone guess, because of Brexit, there has to be a border, the border has to be either on the island of Ireland on in the sea, they were told this during the Brexit campaign they would not listen. The bottom line is this, they only place for the border that doesn't break the GFA so it has to be in the Irish sea unless the UK stay in the customs union, which was what Theresa May wanted, but the DUP didn't. The majority of people in NI opposed Brexit , so this mess firmly lies in the hands of the DUP .

What will happen is that if they continue to be difficult, Boris Johnson, with the Irish government will call a referendum on A United Ireland . let me ask you, can you find a parallel for qi jiguang in the west? where is the shaolin tradition in england or america or germany? is there some form of buddhist epistemology or only the absolute authority of science? do you like technology? how much can you build a drone for in hong kong? how much will these parts cost you in the united states when you buy them from an american who will charge you fifteen times the price because you are a fool? do you want to live where the economy is "competitive" like the united states? because the economy is what people to do to survive. do you want to live where your neighbors try to destroy you so they can live?

as non-Brit the coverage of Northern Ireland is totally strange to me. I don't know what the sides are fighting for, what the issue is, who is fighting who and why, I just know it is being going on forever, it was worse in the 90s, but I honestly have no idea what the conflict is about.

There's so much it's hard to know even how to begin. Generally you have on one side British protestants who wish to remain in the union with GB and who mainly (but not all) supported brexit and have mostly traditional Western Conservative views. On the other side is Irish Catholics who want a United Ireland and who are mostly pro EU and these days tend to have very left wing and even Marxist views. Obviously not every protestant and Catholic will fall under these descriptions but by and large that's how it is.

So then the unionists were fine with having a border between NI and the Republic of Ireland, which means breaking the Good Friday Agreement. In other words, they have no problem with the UK government breaking promises - they just have a problem when the promises being broken are the ones given to them...

Why can't they split NORTH IN 2 I mean for the people who wants North Ireland be with Republic of ireland stay on West side and people who wants UNION with UK stay on the EAST and crossing over or built wall there like Berlin Wall and everyone should mind their business...since people cant be moved to Republic of Ireland or to the Island of BRITAIN .....

The day the Unionists vote for the Alliance Party and the Nationalists vote for the SDLP is the day NI will finally put the past behind them and build a better future. The DUP have fractured NI and Sinn Fein can't do anything about it aslong as they are the silent partner.

Give NI over to the Republic and let the Irish sort out their problem, I'm English but a united Ireland makes sense. Less than a million wanting to be British verses potentially c.5 million who want a united Ireland. A few trouble making protestant teenagers shouldn't warrant such publicity.
