NORTHERN WAY - STAGE 9 - Lourenzá - Abadín

The morning begins marked by a fog that provides us with spectral images along the paths that run through the places of Arroxo, San Pedro and O Reguengo.
At the site of San Paio, the curtains of water particles in suspension are drawn to open up beautiful views of the Valiñadares River Valley, where the most important village of this stage is located: Mondoñedo.
We will visit the Basilica-Cathedral of the Assumption of this town while we witness how its streets begin to be decorated with the props and stalls of its Medieval Fair.
We then leave Mondoñedo to take a complementary section to face the ascent through the quiet valley of Valiñadares.
The sun and the asphalt harden a little more this branch that crosses the small and quiet villages of Barbeitas, Maariz, Paadín or Lousada, although its final interval towards the Alto da Xesta will be the one that will test our endurance.
Finally, we will follow a series of tracks through the agricultural and livestock countryside of the municipality of Abadín until we reach the town of the same name.

Gracias! Este en concreto nos pilló en agosto, pero mientras el resto de la Península Ibérica se asaba como un pollo, por esta franja del norte las temperaturas eran más suaves. Gracias!

Muchas gracias Sergio! La mañana con la niebla fue preciosa pero la tarde fue dura, apareció el calor en ese ascenso por asfalto. Recomendable llevar agua extra por aquí si salen días de estos. Como siempre, el entorno rural gallego no defrauda. Saludos! 👋
