Great video! Been in some of these places. It's been a long time. Off trail hiking isn't easy. You did a great with this hike. Expressive trip! Love the Green River area. Square Top is beautiful too. I remember Gunsight pass.

Very nice. You were very steady and slow pan with camera. Showed two glaciers, lakes and some very rugged mountains. Thanks for sharing.

Great video and narration. I’m trekking from Green River Lakes up Highline Trail then over Clark’s Creek Trail to Porcupine Trail back to starting point. July 2019. Probably bout 32 miles. Can you give me info on your tent? Looks lightweight. Also info on mosquitos. Did a trek in Big Horns and skeeters drove me crazy

John, See kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqaWpYhsrJ2cbbc (incl link in description) and kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWGZeomiiplprqc I believe the one shown here was a bit larger (~9x7) but had been damaged somewhat (left in sun while all bunched up which greatly increased the heat and shrunk and distorted the film in some places) which is why it was not very taut. Shrinkage/distortion wouldn't be an issue normally. Just be familiar with the risks of polycryo. I was prepared to bail at any time if it should fail for some reason. As for skeeters, they can be pretty bad in the Winds, depending on location and time of season. I'd expect July would be worst in most years so definitely take a headnet and a tent with mesh or bivy if possible. If you look WAY back in my vids, you'll see my first trip (and I think the second also) used a tarp that I had sewed mesh walls that kept them at bay. This trip was late enough they weren't a big deal. I ran into them in some places and not others but couldn't see a pattern (i.e., elevation, water, etc).

Get video and a great trip. I was curios about your shelter. What type of material is it made of?

Polycryo (window shrink film). Hope my latest trip report will be up in a few weeks.

Cool video. Was most of this north of Bonney Pass? I followed the Divide pretty closely from Downs to Bonney pass in the northern winds, but it looks like there is a lot more for me to see. I plan to return and do a yo yo of the range next suummer. Also, are you using a polycro tarp? Ballsy.

Sorry for the late reply as the notification went into my spam box. Bonney is the one on the north end of Titcomb Basin I believe so, yes, I was N of there. I was pretty close to or on the Divide from just N of Flagstone Peak to just N of Yukon Peak. Mostly hitting the bigger lakes on the west side. Yes, the tarp is polycryo.

Hi, great info. About how long did it take you to go up and over Osborn mountain?
@topshotrhit
@topshotrhit 4 ай бұрын
I suppose it depends on where you consider "over". :) Maybe an hour at most from the saddle to the very top plateau, an hour across the plateau and maybe a couple hours back to Green River since I didn't hit the trail I'd hoped for and ended up bushwhacking a bit more.

On your hike to the Green River Trailhead, did you hike down along Mill Creek ? Avoiding Roaring Forks Trail and Highline Trail ?... I’m trying to figure out the easiest route to Bear Lake. I was considering hiking up to Clear Lake and then up to Faler Lake. Although it looks like that route would be pretty difficult.

That was my plan (you wouldn't climb Osborne otherwise) but apparently got onto a game or use trail that contoured around 11030 so I stayed above Mill to the south. It wasn't worth it to me to backtrack around to find where I missed it branching off since I knew my new route would be shorter but perhaps more difficult and involve some route finding. I didn't get cliffed out which is all I was worrying about. I think when I looked afterward there may have been a spot on satellite that could have been trail near the bottom of the ravine heading north so shoot for the bottom if you get off track.

Did you calculate your total vertical feet gain/loss? Beautiful country but looked brutal on the knees.
@topshotrhit

No, I didn't. You could estimate with a site like CalTopo.com. It can definitely be brutal which is why I train in advance of trips now!

The Wind River Range is a little west of central Wyoming, about 60 miles ESE of the Tetons.

You need to have a real tent when in the Winds. Looks like you had a 0 degree bag though. I gotta heavy duty Jansport.
