@@mcl_official20XX eh, people have always said that they watch youtubers/content creators because they are "genuine" and then half the time the person they are calling genuine is the most obvious character ever people call Jschlatt genuine, entirely unironically, like it happens commonly i think, at best, people are just tired of very specific characters, like the overly enthusiast KZbinr, or the MrBeast type guy. at worst they're overconfident people who took a character hook line and sinker and ran with it, being in support for what is a satire, not realising they are the butt of the joke, and they hate either characters they did not fall for, or characters/people that dont agree with their worldview

man has incredible gift of gab re: ai, recent tweet from some AI appreciator reads along the line of "if someone gets midjourney to make generative music for spotify they will be very rich". seemed to be a perfect encapsulation of the situation. before music artists were making like 0.00003 dollars per stream, now these guys want to use this same music to feed to some ai which will output some music that *SOUNDS LIKE* the artist, but now you dont have to pay the artist! like i understand automating mundane or cruel tasks with the machine but come on.

@@pente12 your average internet graphic artist has this problem. you make some great art and theres literally nothing stopping someone from copying it. there have been cases where someone steals some design and sells it as their own work to someone like Nike or whoever. the actual artist gets nothing, not even clout i know its easy to rag on NFTs and for the most part it should be ragged on but many online artists see the tech as at least having a way to implement some ownership on their work. it may seem pretty lame and unfortunately has an unshakeable reputation (and deserved) for being one giant fucking scam, but online artists are desperate and like i said if you dont pay for culture you get monkey.png for your culture

"McDonalds is consistent and always alleviates my hunger" *is* something NL would say. I'm sorry. It would have been at the end of an NLSS discussion on fast food, and when he realised that his ramble was amounting to nothing more than the well-trodden 'you always know what you're going to get in mcdonalds everywhere', he'd try add an extra ribbon, but halfway through that sentence he'd realize he's about to say "food makes you less hungry" and bail out by dressing up the sentence with a long word. I'm sorry! He's done a lot of streams! not every ramble can possibly be a 10/10 and sometimes when he's in a bad one he makes it sound better at the end by acquiescing some extranormal vernacular into his diction!

Paper towels are goated at drying your hands, and you can use it to turn the handle of the sink off and open the door. I agree that the motion sensors for the faucet and the soap dispensers are shit. But I disagree that we should go back to how it used to be (still is in most public bathrooms). One of my annoyances with using a mechanical faucet is that you turn it while your hands are dirty, you wash your hands, and now you have to turn the dirty nob/lever. And yeah, it's a very minor issue, and also I can just act like a germaphobe and turn the faucet off using a paper towel, but like, I'd rather the engineers made my life easier than having to worry about it myself. And the mechanical soap dispensers are always so stiff, like you have to use your whole body weight to get the soap out. I'd prefer that the soap dispenser has a touch sensor button, so you simply touch the button (not click it) and it activates, rather than a motion sensor. And then just fix the damn faucet sensor. Elevator doors have good sensors that know something is in front of the door, why can't that technology be in the faucet sensor? Or heck, just do another touch sensor. I'd feel way better having to just lightly touch it with my pinky to turn the faucet off, than having to use my whole hand to turn the nob or pull the lever.

For me, all the doomsaying about "AI is going to kill the art industry/community!" sounds extremely familiar to the doomsaying in the 90s/00s about "digital art is going to kill the art industry/community!" or people in the mid 19th century saying "photography is going to kill the art industry/community!". I agree we need to take it slow and deal with some problematic elements of learning algorithm programs (I refuse to call it artificial "intelligence" because its not that) just like we had to work through the problems with digital art and photography. So like, I do art sometimes, I'm in the art community a fair bit, I used to be kind of mixed on AI art, but I recently found someone who kind of created pipeline workflow for starting art and using different AIs and manual alterations to refine the art using AI, and my mind was kind of like oh, you figured out how to actually use it and put effort in it, using it as tools rather than the whole process, I think that's the future of AI art, the biggest issue around AI art imo is using people's art who don't want it to be used as training data, which IMO is the biggest legitimate issue in the space

AI art is not only pointless because of the lack of the human input, it's also literally stealing the work of the human artists in a vain attempt to recreate what they did. T.S. Eliot and Ezra Pound stated that good art needs to be aware of the past, but can never copy it, it needs to always create something new. AI art only does the first thing, creating a literal frankensteinian amalgam, a late-stage capitalism's monster set out to conquer and destroy creativity - the enemy of profit-oriented approach.
