The problem with planes isn't the flight, it's the process of getting on the flight. Arranging a ride or long term parking can be like half the price of a ticket, the crap shoot where you never know if security is going to be 20 mins or an hour, the inefficient boarding (and deboarding) process, needing to go through a line to check your bags in, needing to wait for your bags, needing to rent a car once you arrive (again, almost as expensive as the flight). At the end of the day, driving for 5 hours can take as long as your 1.5 hours of flying and all you have to pay for is gas
