The whole game is entirely RNG dependant and the way to play is literally to gamble on whether the next dice roll will be better than what you currently have. This is what decides games before you can snowball some scaling.

can strats were always pretty great. Black cat effecting them is fun/scales fast. Chicken was way harder to pull off but has similar potential. dromedary bacta stuff can be pretty solid too, but nl does like to do things that make bacta less efficient. for example buffing a drom on his team as much as possible while trying to bacta one too... and then combining them when he'll get like +1/+1. lioness seems to be the simplest variation to pull off

I thought about that one and have been in similar situations before. Honestly for as much mistakes as NL makes I think he ran it that way on purpose, and I probably would of done the same thing. (Edit: I see you do say that he did it on purpose, have you ever considered it was actually for a legit reason?) At the round they were at, a cricket spawning a 2/1 instead of a 2/2 was (IMO) not as valuable as having the cricket on the back line to potentially turn a draw into a win (or even a loss into a draw in some cases). I would actually be willing to bet with the average HP of units on that round he actually mathmatically did the right thing... and I like to give Egg enough credit to where I actually believe he hashed those probabilities out off the cuff, and of course just muscle memory from being in that spot... because it comes up a bunch in the very original pack.

@@Haanski Your logic is mostly bad, even though your fundamentals are good. Yes, you want your smallest unit in the back/biggest in front. But compare horse in front: 1/1 2/3 2/1 To horse in back: 2/1 2/1 2/3 As you can see, the horse having 1 more attack than the zombie cricket does mean it is more deserving to be in the back, because when it is in the back, it adds that attack to the zombie cricket. Also, in this case, the base cricket being larger than either due to prior buffs meant that it being further up is a benefit, since it is bigger. The only counter argument is stuff like Badger/Hedgehog where having the spawn as far back as possible maximizes the chance that the spawn is not triggered until after the Badger/Hedgehog goes off.

That is the whole crux off my point in the first place, that the value of doing one thing is better than the other. Obviously having the horse in the back ALMOST every time is going to be the best play, I mean Occam's razor... the math just makes sense. But in this particular situation, I think it was round 3 I believe, possibly 4... That in this particular instance getting the extra 1 attack on that zombie cricket wasn't worth as much as the cricket spawning in the back (acting like honey bee, which as we know turns a lot of draws into wins). There might not even be a "right" answer to this, I honestly think this exact situation is really really close if I had to guess. Depending on how the opposition has their units set up it might earn you a win sometimes doing this, and it might cost you a win sometimes as well. I am sure someone could run the numbers somehow for the particular pack, but it is most likely negligible IMO. In most other instances you would be right though, horse as the back makes the most sense.

If Panda and Stegasaurus weren't in the game, tier 6's that are designed to be tanky units at the front (basically no fly, vulture, orca, etc, and instead your cheetahs, gorillas, octopuses, etc) are just shit. They are untakeable unless you have like a lvl 3 monkey and an already scaled unit to carry you.

look at star fish a tier 3 but like power wise is the same as a shrimp, gain +1/+1 stats on a random unit if you activate a sell trigger, lobster gain +0/+1 stats on a random unit if you sell at all. there are useful buy sell oriented pets that starfish doesnt work with but shrimp does work with mostly otter, hamster, guinea pig, chinchilla, frigatebird, snail, mole (for things to buy and sell) and salamander (for things that benefit from buy sell) you telling me a tier 3 has that ability when shrimp is tier 2? more stats but more restrictive scaling is a side grade not a upgrade. it doesnt even have better stats

@@jorritvaniersel5326 But that's not addressing the problem. The problem is the lack of power scaling among all tier 5 and 6's. Even tier 4's! By the time you get a 4/7 hippo, you probably already have a 15/19 with garlic armor. The jump in shop tier scaling should represent the average scaling of units themselves. It shouldn't be *super* easy to pivot, but at least easier. In the current meta, you basically need scaling early, but scaling early means you can't pivot easily whatsoever. The most successful runs usually involve early bison and caterpillar.

Makes matchmaking harder tho. Are you only placed against other freeplay players? (presumably you would have to be, and in the same round as usual) If so I'm not sure there would be enough of a queue for there to be the near-instant wait times we expect in a normal round. It would also be different balance-wise because scaling comps could theoretically infinitely scale, and once you had a team of (for instance) all lvl 3 gorillas already with coconuts, then you probably just keep winning or drawing until like round 50 at least I imagine. Though it would be fun, and it is sad when you have a team that's just taking off cut short by getting 10 wins.

I think NL played these pretty well overall... I do find it funny how we all know the lioness is well in need of a nerf... but it is still a heavy pivot pet, and when you lose to another lioness team basically as SOON as you can aquire one... the reason you lost my brother in christ is NOT becuse of the lioness yet, it doesn't start to pog until it does it's scaling in later rounds. I just find it funny when he blames a loss on something when the team literally just bought the unit and it didn't even use it's effect yet. Now in the later rounds if you run into 3 50/50 gorillas I can see being salty lol.

@@dg5059 That 1/1 fodder for hurt trigger was definitely not worth losing the skunk. If I recall, when you look at the next match, skunk difference definitely would have changed that result. Multiplicative debuff on health better than an additive increase in attack/health. Not nitpicking, pointing out one thing that stood out.
