Seeing grass/poison on pokedoku, knowing there's only one non-poison grass type in gen 1, and immediately watching NL go for it is what keeps me coming back for more.

25:20 Unfun fact: Average life expectancy of 30 doesn't mean people keeled over at 30. It means insane levels of infant mortality. ~40% everywhere right up until the mid/late 1800s. Some places had ~30% until the mid 1950s.
@tryashtar6 ай бұрын
This claim is made a lot but I think it's questionable. Especially in a time period where lifespans were largely undocumented, it seems unlikely that statistics on infant mortality were collected, and combined with statistics on deaths of natural causes in such a confounding way. Of course 30 is too low to have ever been considered old age, but advances in medicine have done more to keep us alive longer than just making it past childhood.
@Merith896 ай бұрын
@tryashtar There were more bureaucracies in history than anyone would expect. Medical science, clean water, labor laws, advances in farming, there's many contributers to today's life expectancy rates. Global population didn't snowball for no reason in the past 150 years, and decreased childhood mortality plays a heavy hand in that. Whether someone dies at 65 vs 85 is unlikely to have much impact on how many children they have. Dying at 5 vs 65 does. Personally, I wouldn't have made it a week without someone fixing my liver upon birth.
@tryashtar6 ай бұрын
@@Merith89 You're definitely right. I'd be interested to see statistics that show, separately, how life expectancy at birth and life expectancy after childhood have increased over time

Are you from the United States of America? Likely because there is no word like "United Statsian" to refer to people from that country, we simply call them Americans. As a result, "America" is now synonymous with "the United States" in Canadian English. If you come to Canada and say "America" and mean anything other than "the United States of America," we won't understand you. If you wish to use the term "America" in the way you suggest, the translation that works in Canadian English would be "the Americas."

South Africa is not a country. It's a region of Africa made of 5 countries. Also Colombians should be forced to collectively change their entire demonym because 'Colombia'/'Columbia' was originally conceived as a reference to all of the New World (+ it's derived from Christopher Columbus).
