NL seems ignorant to the existence of the walk-in clinic. They are there for "I have this weird issue but it isn't an emergency". The ER is for emergencies so if you go there without one yeah you're gonna have to wait 12 hours until the doctors don't have anything more important to get to. Walk-in wait times are like an hour or two tops especially if you can go at off-peak hours.

I think it's a Vancouver thing. People sometimes have to line up before walk-ins even open here, and many are just by appointment now. Also they usually have terrible hours like 9:30-3:00 weekdays only, which makes it impossible for people with regular jobs to go.

unfortunately walk-in clinics, at least where I am in the US, ALSO can have obscene wait times. My GF and I have sat there for 3-4 hours before, because it was that or an expensive trip to the ER

You can go to a walk-in clinic and they can either prescribe something or tell you to go to the ER if necessary.
