Bro finally someone being real and humble. I saw so many videos telling me I can't grow them outdoors without a greenhouse because they can't take rain and will suffocate because water blocks all their oxygen flow and I need special soil and special feterlizers just to get started... And I'm like it's just a plant.... Why shouldn't it be okay with some rain? Like this their most natural environment. It's like saying lions can't survive outside of the zoo. :D

The light deprivation tip of putting the plants in dark for 3 days is huge. WAY better than having to put the plant in darkness every day at 6pm. One of the most informational videos on cannabis I've seen. Thank you. I hope you can teach us more.

It’s too much work moving them into the dark every day
@forrestphoenix3182 жыл бұрын
@@GardeningInCanada What I've actually been doing now is putting the plants in a dark garage for 6 hours from noon-6pm every 4 days. If I were to put the plants in my garage overnight, they would produce a lot of powdery mildew on the fan leaves; even with a fan blowing directly on the plants. My garage doesn't have good fresh air intake I guess is the problem. When I take them out of the garage at 6pm, I spray them with water and milk to reduce the mold. Then the spray dries up before nightfall. Getting good flowering and very little mildew this way.
@andrescordoba15582 жыл бұрын
So 72 hours of uninterrupted darkness? Wouldn’t this lack of overall light in flowering diminish the harvest? By not having enough energy to produce good buds
@superkoopatrooper487910 ай бұрын
The only concern is your plant has a huge risk of revegging or becoming a hermie. Inconsistent light hours probably feels like the end of the world for a plant that's evolved to track sun light hours.

It's never been proven in a lab though. Advanced Nutrients, say what you will about their products, they're one of the leading research and development corporations when it comes to cannabis. They've never found the long dark period when flipping lights did anything. It actually created more herms and problems doing it. The other thing they discovered, and feel free to check it, 90% of cannabis needs more N than bloom fertilizers generally have. They discovered that 90% of strains did better when given a slightly higher N than P nutrient mix. It's backwards from what we've always been told. Cannabis needs tons of phosphorus to flower! Turns out, that was just bro science. They need a lot of P when flowering. But, they also need more N than most fertilizerz will offer. They've got the peer reviewed lab data to prove it. I use to do the same thing when flipping my lights. Then, I looked in to some of the studies AN did, and realized I was wrong. Don't believe me? Go research it yourself and prove me wrong! I'd love it because that would mean I learned something.

Cannabis nowadays is highly inbred and super sensitive. My pepper plants, strawberries, rosemary, potatoes etc are all ok with my tap water. The ph is 9 with a ppm of 100. If I gave that water to my cannabis plant, it will turn neon yellow and die in a matter of days. Of all my plants, cannabis is the most sensitive. It's almost a requirement if you want to grow good weed. It's like pizza, easy to make but it literally takes years to master.
@doctorprocter422510 ай бұрын
I use tap water, haven't had a problem since I started 4 or 5 years ago. I think it has alot to do with what's in your water. Mine comes out at PH 8. And about 300pm. Don't know about chlorine, or chloramine in it, but it must have enough calcium, cause I've never had to use cal/mag. When I use liquid fertilizer, the PH came out pretty much perfect. But I've switched to organic, so I can reuse my growing medium easier. On my 5th run in the same soil, so far so good. And they do not flower when they get root bound unless they are an autoflower. People keep mother plants in same container for years, and it don't flower intill it gets the right amount of darkness. 12-15 hours of darkness. I have only done 12 and 13 hour dark period. Don't think there was a difference.
@superkoopatrooper487910 ай бұрын
@@doctorprocter4225 ya my pH is 9 pushing 10 and a ppm between 50-100. Your water must naturally be closer to 7-6ph. At the end of the day though, 90% of all the issues with cannabis online is pH related. With tomatoes, you have a pH issue, you get blossom end rot. In cannabis, it just dies.

This year, I planted my seeds then we got a cold snap with super strong winds. I lost 5 out of 6 and the 6th ain't looking too strong. One month later, it still only has 1 large leaf and a second tiny one (not the cotyledons). I live in Hawaii, but most of the growers don't wanna share their expertise or are using hydroponics. What NPK would you recommend, notwithstanding the low N value you've suggested? As far as calcium/mag and other micronutrients what values would you suggest with the bloom PK cal etc? What are your thoughts about air pruning for root growth? Will this delay the onset of "forced" flower because the root development continues? Thanks.

I top once or twice. tie down certain branches to the rim oh and off set the transplant from center of the bucket so I can still use the handle to carry it around as sunshine is an issue on my property. Also to get them out of the rain as much as possible esp when in bud. I am usually finished growing the start of sept and very happy with my harvest. I'm trying to grow one right now and I am not sure if I'm doing it right but they're growing 😄 I actually had one plant that was dying and having nutrient issues, so I changed the soil and added compost extra, a couple days later I got a collapsed lung and was in the hospital for five days. When I came home, they came back to life then began dying again. The leaves turned yellow and crumbled, they fell off from the stems and I thought I was going to have to start over, but I researched some more and changed things up and now it's growing so much. I got happy frog soil, got pumice, fabric pots, ph balanced things, and things began to get much better. Hopefully these are female seeds. I just need one plant and it'll last me a while. I also learned that I wasn't giving enough nutrients so I learned to fertilize properly.

And now I know why your channel is so amazing and answering all my questions about soil 😂. Sustainability in the cannabis industry is a big problem. As a consumer, I see the various ways it can be grown and achieve the same results when done correctly (such as coco coir, rock-wool and hydroponic). Rockwool is used once, then off to the landfill, where it takes a very long time to decompose and decay. Indoor growing also requires lots more energy and carbon emissions. Theres a myth that indoor is higher quality and this is actually not even true in all areas.

Any plant that you don’t want to grow is considered a weed. There is not a class of plants that are called weeds. It was called weed because it is slang for cannabis. Genetics are important but if you don’t give the plant what it needs to get to its full potential, you’re gonna be stuck with mids.

All of the others shot to unbelievable heights with huge colas. Out of 12 plans I ended up getting close to 4 lb once dried and cured. I won't have to grow again for another couple of years lol!!😊✌️ Oh yeah PS I fenced them all in so no critters could get at them! Not bad for being a first-time grower at the age of 43... As for the community most want the last word or to think their method is the best. However not to worry in the end of the day for this plant the science of the soil is everything next to light, your doing the right thing and good for you for finding the confidence to make the video because we need more personable videos sharing knowledge and experience out of Canada for current users and future on all topics regarding cannabis. and a side note it seems all plants on earth grow in living organic soil, even water plants there is no foam piece keeping the plants upright so the roots can float in the water, its great there is so many ways to grow but natural is probably best like in a jungle forest or oasis also hydro when done with integrity.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but cannabis plants that are laggy like the one @ 7:45 mark could be planted deeper like a tomato plant to grow extra roots

You just became very cool in my book. I love soil biology and this plant! But what I have been trying to work out is where do they grow naturally? Is it in open grass lands? Im trying to understand if they like a bacterial or fungal dominant soil. I think it’s fungal but I don’t really know. I would really appreciate your thoughts on the subject. I’m looking forward to your follow up vids on this subject 😃

I want to lean today’s prairie mostly because they don’t shoot “runners” the use pollen and wind mechanics. Makes me think it needs winds and open space

Thank you for the great video! It's difficult to find advice on the shorter growing season in our areas (in Manitoba myself). Do you give your pepper plants the same treatment in regards to flowering and 3 days in the garage? Just curious because mine have been hit and miss throughout the years. Oh and when do you begin your outdoor season? 3rd/4th week of May? Or outside temp average?

For pepper plants, I honestly do the full sun and undersized containers. Weh I am ready for flowering I pull back of watering till I get some wilted leaves. and then I water. And for going outdoors I am waiting until my nighttime temps are 10C or higher. gardeningincanada.net/grow-pepper-plants-in-canada/

I'm in Arizona. i pretty much gave up growing outdoors, too much heat and too many bugs. A lot of us in the cannabis community are using Pro-Mix HP and the GH Maxigrow and Maxibloom products to good effect.

I know you don't work at Myth Busters but I have heard things that I think might work. I have heard of indoor growers shutting down there lights for the last 48 hours to increase terps and smell. Would that work? In my case, moving buckets to the shed to improve flavor. Also what do you think of mollasses and compost tea in fruiting? Would love to get a informed inpartial opinion. Love your channel.

Flushing doesn’t make a difference to bud size. It’s for less harsh smoke and crop steering during early to mid flowering. It can really make a noticeable difference in hydroponics. It’s not really something for organic growing. I guess you could flush your soil at the end of the season if you are in small containers. But if you’re using small containers, you might as well just go with completely inert medium rather than soil. The crop steering flush involves flushing about half way through flowering to stress the plants. It will cause bud formation to increase quickly. It really speeds bud growth. But after a couple/few days’ dry back ,more nutrient is given in light dosages. Or alternate between nutrient mix and ph adjusted water. Then flush the last week or so. This is only for hydro medium ,tho. And the dilution rates differ for run off and no run off feeding. Much lighter doses for no run off.

In Australia we always flush hydro to get rid of the bad tastes from pumping the plant with chemicals . But this is the only reason we flush . I've never heard of anyone flushing outdoor crops that are organically grown .

Oh that’s interesting! And makes sense certain things like sulphur can add too taste

@@GardeningInCanada yeah if you don't flush for a week at the very least you end up with this under laying taste of vegimite , that's the only way I can describe the taste.

A friend gave me a couple plants as he had over quota for the state. I don't use marijuana so no big deal, just another plant. And that's the way I've been treating it. Currently outside, the dog ate one. So it's going to be a two year process as ive done cuttings from the one plant. See how things go
