why are they so scared of a fox?

Foxes can kill newborn alpacas (if undefended). They aren't exactly scared, they just really dislike foxes. Llamas even more so than alpacas. Llames are bigger, less scared and more agressive. They will attack coyotes/foxes/cannids in general if they can catch them by flipping them with an upwards motion of their front legs and then striking down with the front legs to disembowel.
