every part of this song is like honey to my ears but i really love and appreciate how the song starts almost upbeat and optimistic and it slowly and steadily shifts into minor chords, making it sound like it's gradually becoming ominous and hopeless these guys don't get enough love for their songwriting and musical skills and it kills me i can never sing their praises enough

I'm going through some tough issues with some of my family right now, namely my mother. She neglected me as a kid and I got away at 16, having to declare myself homeless. I eventually made something of my life and have a wonderful wife and two kids. She regularly doesn't bother and we haven't spoken since Christmas through her apathy. She projects her own issues onto me, which is why I tend not to bother much with her any more either. For that (and loads more), this song hits me so fucking hard, man. I feel this in my core. Northlane forever ❤

3:17 - 4:32 arguably one of Northlane's finest moments. The build up followed by Marcus' menacing vocals and eventual breakdown is just pure filth 🔥👌

By far my favorite track on this record. The harmonic & melodic structure is fascinating. I've been wondering what key it's in. It's sounds like a mode with D#/E-flat as the root.

100%. I got Strapping Young Lad but also Faith no More- but I can't put my finger on exactly why. Maybe the 4/4 drumming and hi hat work?
@Astralanthony2 жыл бұрын
@@randelmatt for me, it’s that vocal line. It’s got that crunch or fire to the vocals that makes it so Devy.
@_-TCАй бұрын
YEESS!! THANK YOU! This is exactly what I've been saying since the release! This is essentially Strapping Young Lad 2024, the intensity of the chorus brings me back to the times of "Almost Again'! The high pitch, almost polyphonic overtone vocals in the chorus, combined with the 'pulsating' up and down sound of the bass/guitars is EXACTLY what drives me crazy in metal, something about that is just so real/primal... Also the drums, puncing every quarter note on a crash/china is VERY Hoglan-esque. Not sure if it's by design, but all these elements are essentially what made SYL! Haha!

Best song on Obsidian. Really nice work. The rest of the record was good but not this good. Told myself I need to listen their past records and turns out I already have their previous songs on my playlist. Northlane really are the pioneers of metalcore. Each album delivers something new. Their style changes after each album, but somehow it's always really mindblowing stuff! Please come visit Finland!
