They actually are a professional "dramatics society". And "that guy", the director, is telling everybody that they are finished and did a great job. He's doing his job and he's doing it quite well. It's called direction with positive reinforcement.

@blybly93 Define the word "Hipster" from your own words please, because no one seems to be able to give a definition of the word. I mean Other then Clothes and glasses. I don't see how you can go around judging people by what they wear.

because those "terrible backup musicians" are either members of the band or good friends with the band and are willing to work long and often boring hours through tedious songwriting kinks and non paying gigs and aren't just doing it for a one off "fun" gig. If you are willing to do all those things, then you should start your own band. As a professional cellist it shouldn't be too hard to get something going???
