Northumbrian Lobster Pot

These Lobster pots were commonly used on the North East coast of England from the early 1900's until the invention of steel and plastic alternatives which have all but phased them out. The pots were fished in "fleets" or strings of anywhere between 10 and 25 from a traditional North East boat called a "Coble" The skill in making handmade pots is one that is rapidly disappearing. This model is identical to a full sized working pot including the methods used to make it.

Very interesting, My Dad could make a pot and 'knit' a net. I was chatting to a guy in Bridlington a couple of years ago as he was working on his pots and he said he now bought them from China and they only cost £15 each! It wasn't worth him bothering to make his own.
