I have a similar DIY anti-wet sump manual valve with microswitch on my '74 850 Commando. Works a treat. Put it on after suffering a blown out crank seal from start up after wet sumping; filled up primary with oil and leaked out the shaft opening spraying oil over rear of bike. There are a couple of off the shelf units with integrated switches available, but all seem kinda spendy for what they are. I put mine together for about $15 in parts from the hardware & electronics stores.

He has done a very nice job with the bike. Rattle can paint, it looks truly good, how did he seal the paint against fuel?
@TheMightyGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wooley, he added clear coat to the paint. I'm not sure how many coats but he certainly added it. Yes, that paint job is amazing. I'm hoping to get Geoff's help with the Manxman painting as I will be doing it myself! Cheers, Mike

Thank you very much Steve! I really appreciate it. I've had a lot of problems editing the videos with lots of glitches occurring, but hopefully getting there. I might need a more powerful Mac! Cheers, Mike

Corr, always envious of the space you chaps have got in your garages! Interesting to see the handlebar mounted choke on the Mikuni. Mines the standard on/off lever on the carb itself. Also, where's the manual valve with the microswitch from? Looks like a tidy option compared to a few I've seen. Cheers.

Hi Luke, I'll check with Geoff on where he got the valve from. I think he made and fitted the microswitch himself! Cheers, Mike

I guess the restoration purists have all fainted after that little tour. Does the Mikuni carb make any difference?
@TheMightyGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hehe, yes Geoff. I hate to say it but the guys who have the Mikuni's really have very little problems getting their bikes started and idling! I try not to look as I kick away at mine at times ;)

Fyi regarding wet sumping. There is a company in Arizona, AMR who modify the timing cover with a spring loaded ball check valve. Unlike the check valve in the feed line, this mod is on the pressure side of the pump similar to what Norton did with the MKIII bike and can't fail. I've done three Commandos with this mod and it works very well. www.amr-tucson.com/nortech.html. Nice bike there. You might want to get the boots that go on the base of instruments to keep the water out.
