The two Norwegians were the only ones who did not like the song. They should be proud that Keiino made this song cause I did not know anything about Sami culture and I have never heard of yoik, and thanks Keiino now I am interested in Norway and I will start looking for this kind of music because I loved it. Saludos desde México.

We all have our own taste in music 😊 personally I'm just happy that there is finally sámi representation at Eurovision... And that jojk is getting a bit of spotlight. I thought Sweden would have been the first (thanks to Jon Henrik's amazingness) but looks like Norway beat them to it! ♥️🇳🇴 *I wish there was a sàmi flag emoji*

Noosh slipped a bit calling it Viking but I guess it was just a mistake. Anyway, in case you're reading this: The Sámi/Saami are finno-ugric people, they don't come from Europe and aren't related to any native European group. Instead, they are related to the Finns, Estonians and Hungarians, as well as many other groups in Russia by the Uralic Mountains. They settled in Northern Scandinavia from Norway to Russia, and have almost always been a minority and discriminated group. All of their languages and culture are now in danger of disappearing.
@alioth74035 жыл бұрын
Fíl Fóstur You missed a very important part though. The Sámi settled in those lands a long long time before the North Germanic tribes arrived from across the North Sea, and they have uninterruptedly been dwelling in those lands longer than any other group, which makes the Sámi indigenous to those lands.
@filfostur17575 жыл бұрын
@@alioth7403 yes that's very important. Vikings came from Denmark and southern Norway and Sweden. And as they, and their later Christian kingdoms got more powerful they claimed those Sámi lands as theirs, that's when the discrimination policies took off.
@Graciekate9105 жыл бұрын
Thank you for explaining that so politely and clearly rather than just declaring ignorance. That’s really interesting to know and understand.

@@LeonieSii The Sami language had its first exposure in the ESC stage back in 1980 if I'm not mistaken. 2016's Agnete is also of Sami descent I believe. But yeah, Sami taking centerstage at ESC in such a pivotal year for indigenous languages is a victory in itself. :) ;)
