Norway has just authorised commercial deep-sea mining on its seabed, which is rich in rare and precious metals. This announcement has whetted the appetite of mining companies, which are developing robots and drones to collect the rocks, located at a depth of 3,000 metres. Billions of euros are at stake in the exploitation of these so-called critical minerals, which are essential for building electric vehicle batteries and solar panels. But deep-sea mining could prove devastating for ecosystems.

Not mentioned here is of course that Norway has extensive deep sea working experience in harsh conditions. So deep water mining is a perfect match for the industry when oil and gas eventually dies out.

One person said 300 meters. The other said 3000 meters deep. Which is it?

The depth in the exploration area ranges from 1000-4000 meters. The coring unit in the video is rated for operations down to 4000 meters depth.

@@andreassvanlund4291, the keyword is "rated" as SS has only tested it at 1000m so far, right? What does that mean in tech terms?

One can sense a trap in the works likely a trap meant for crews on Chinese ships seeking valuable metals or any other reasons for that matter, keep in mind the destructive fire on Maui and the 'mysterious bird & fish die-offs in and around Western friendly nations waters'. Such traps can be set-up anywhere around the globe, please pay attention to further developments.

@@mofomoco somehow DISCOL test site and the research from it shows quite the opposite. Not to mention that Norway has no nodules, so will require actual drilling.

It’s not we it’s mostly 👨‍⚖️👩‍⚖️ people. Y’all 🙎🏼‍♀️ have been destroying the planet since the development of assembly lines and mass production. All in the name of greed and comfort. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For every mass produced product (cars, phones, clothes, etc…) there is the opposite reaction of mass destruction, contamination, and depletion. Develop nations hide this destruction by doing it abroad but the damage is still being done. And it’s all done just so bob and stacy can have a new car every 4 years or a new phone every one year or new clothes when the old ones go out of style. Absolute madness.
