As a teenage violinist, this is the piece I aspired to play. I still remember the fingering off by heart. It was the set piece in the under 19 section in major British music festival. I took part, came last, but no regrets! A Romance that lives up to its name - passion, energy, drama, hope. Thanks.

Same for me! I played second violin when I was 14, the soloist was the 17 y/o boy on first chair, and I was absolutely delighted - this sound will never leave my soul. Last year I finally played it for an orchestra audition and it brought me straight to the first violins. Thank you svendsen!

Love this interpretation - I guess it sometimes takes a Norwegian to interpret Norwegian music. Noble, never over-sentimental but full of emotion and passion under the surface. His sense of timing/rubato in the phrasing is wonderful.

An edition of this piece for violin and piano may be found in the Schirmer volume "37 Piece You Like to Play" along with a bunch of other really nice stuff. I like this version with orchestra and will set about finding a place where the orchestra score and parts might be purchased or rented.

I have been learning and playing this piece during the lockdown. Also remembering what the 8th position feels like with the top B in the recapitulation section. The piece is in G major with the middle (development) section in the tonic minor. Not the easiest work to master!

I'd forgotten what a great piece this is. I love this orchestra - hope you're still going strong! First caught up with you via Grieg Holberg Suite.. Fantastic musicianship, a great balance of traditional and modern ideas. Thank you for this wonderful Art!

Svendsen studied violin with none other than Ferdinand David. When Svendsen was born (in 1840), Brahms was barely seven years old. When he died (in 1911), Richard Strauss was already 47 years old and Stravinsky was 29. Svendsen wrote three symphonies and a violin concerto among other things but this is his best-known work, a miniature masterpiece.

Es ist einfach wunderschön, wie Terje das Stück spielt. Ich empfehle auch die Holberg Suite mit dem selben Orchester, ebenfalls ein Sahnestück, und ich habe bisher noch keine bessere Interpretation gefunden.
