Norwegian Bliss Solo Cabin Tour | SOLO CRUISE

I spent seven days in a Norwegian Bliss Solo Studio Stateroom and this is the lowdown. This isn't the view of someone who did a promotional cruise on the Norwegian Bliss and got to have a poke around the Solo Studio Stateroom. This is living in it and using it for a seven-day cruise to the Mexico Riviera.
I really liked the Solo Studio Stateroom and would utilise that option again on the Norwegian Bliss if the price was right compared to other stateroom options.

I’m cruising on the Bliss in a solo cabin over Christmas and really appreciated your review. You’re right, most people who review them do it as a lark when they’d never purposefully choose to stay in a solo cabin. I’ve stayed in solo before, on the Epic, and I loved it. As you mentioned in your video I am one of those cruisers who stays solo but travels with family. Both cruises a solo cabin was cheaper than an interior so I went with a solo. I enjoy having my own space where my niece and nephew (or my parents🤣) can’t pound on the door. I will add I’ve cruised with Royal before and my ocean view seemed both smaller and more cluttered than my solo cabin on the Epic.

Yeah, it never occurred to me people may use the solo cabins as a way to have their own space when in a group / family until the steward mentioned it. Fascinating about the Royal ocean view rooms I always assumed the solo cabins were an order of magnitude smaller than any other cabin. It's interesting how people react to them. I think I'm someone who doesn't put a great amount of value on their cabin due to the way my mind works. I got an extremely low upgrade bid to a balcony on my last cruise and it was nice but I'm not sure it was as transformationally an experience as it is for other people!

I am booked on the Bliss in a studio for November. Wanted to explore the lounge area, while still being close to most everything on the ship. I have a friend who booked the same cruise as myself, so we have the opportunity to both travel together and experience different parts of the ship. He is on Deck 9, and I am on 12 which isn't terrible for meetups and social time. Great analysis, and I can update at a later date how my experience was.

So, the solo studios usually are priced a little more than Solo Inside cabins for several reasons…..1. Studios are in that private area of the ship and within steps of the solo lounge. Solo Inside and Solo oceanview which do get you access to the solo lounge are located far below on deck 5 of Bliss and Encore. That means walking up 7 decks to the lounge or waiting for an elevator. There is a trade off here….a larger cabin on deck 5 not in prime solo territory and potentially noisy or a smaller studio in a private enclave closer to everything. I’ve done all three. If I can get good price on solo oceanview I usually take that on deck 5, but they sell out FAST. Otherwise, a cozy studio on decks 10-12 is where you’ll find me.

Stayed in a Studio on Encore last February and I have pleasantly referred to them as being the Gold Standard as far as solo cruising goes. Should these become available again whenever we get back to sailing...I wouldn't hesitate to book a studio again. For those curious, Bliss and Encore studio areas...cabins as well as the lounge are exactly alike.

Thanks for the video & your observations on the solo studio stateroom. I would say for me, this would not work, as I would prefer a separate bathroom area and generally pack more than you did. But I'm glad you generally enjoyed the cabin. Also, being an introvert like you, I don't know whether I would care for the solo mixers. I do like chatting with the other guests on board and making acquaintances, but not in the context that they provided for the solo guests on the Bliss. Anyway, like your videos!

Yeah I tend to find cruises cater for people on their own by assuming you are a solo person wanting to not be solo. This isn't always true for introverts. I found my cruise fine I could be around people but interact on my terms. The weird thing about Norwegian. Is sometimes the solo pricing of inside cabins is cheaper than the solo pricing on those dinky solo cabins.

Nice cabin. As you said, many people jump on thew solo cabin without realizing they can get an interior cabin for the same, a little more, or sometimes even less the cost of the solo cabin even with the solo supplement.

Definitely. People always quote NCL as having solo pricing on their solo cabins sometimes that's not the case the solo cabin can be more. Though I have noticed recently the price are NCL for solo is getting very close to double the normal price on a few cruises I have clicked on out of interest. I am starting to wonder if recouping those pandemic losses us putting pressure on the once good solo pricing.

Yeah that would be handy for sure. I went on Norwegian Jewel from Vancouver to Alaska this May and it was awesome. I then got off and travelled independently for a week or so to Denali and back. Loved it.

They are quite small and definitely not for everyone for sure. The price made sense for that cruise quite often it's just as cheap if not cheaper to go for a normal inside so they are a bit of a weird offering.

Very helpful. Does Deck 10, 11 and 12 have ways to gain access on each floor? Or is there a main entrance on one floor and you have walk to your cabin from there? The one thing I figured out, is instead of getting One ☝️ Inside Cabin at 135 sq feet for myself and my guest, limited storage and one closet, is to get Two Studios that can open to each other. You now have 200 sq feet. The inside cabins look extremely tiny even for One person. We are taking this Boat as a Chartered Cruise later in the year. So prices are different. But relative. I originally booked an inside cabin, but paid $10 more to get 2 Inside Connecting Studios. So we gained more storage space and individual restrooms. Even though we will be sleeping in the same bed. We are not large people lol

That is a clever idea! You can enter the studios from each floor. You can then move between the floors via a staircase that always provides access to the lounge. They are really well located as you are literally mid-ships which is another benefit. I really liked it.

The Breakaway I think only has decks 10 and 11 Studio cabins.

Good question. I never thought of that. I have a feeling you could probably by something from amazon that was credit card sized and it would work just as well. The card doesn't do anything something just has to be inserted for the room electricity to be on.

@@NarrativeEscapes I've read that some cruise lines have made it so it has to be the key card, and not just an old credit card. Apparently frequent cruisers used to carry dummy cards on them for this reason, but 1 or 2 major cruise lines have made it so it's the room key card only, newest ships tho, if i remember correctly. Curious if they'd give a 2nd key card to a solo traveler, because I would also want to charge things while out for breakfast, or such

@@NarrativeEscapes i am a big planner, and since i've never been on a cruise, and will be solo traveling, i started deep diving. your video was the first to mention the keycard thing, but i have come across it in other travels, so i started looing at the blogs and found 2 recently new ships that put a stop to the dead credit card method - wish i could find it in my histories to share, sorry i can't find it; but thank you for answering me! :)

With ref to not being able to charge electronic items while you are out of the room .... I don't know if this works on all Ships but on the Virtuosa my Tesco clubcard did the trick. I had it in a cc holder along with my room card and one evening inadvertantly used it, not realising until the next morning when I removed it. Lights, extractor fan, USB charging all worked as normal [and it didn't wipe my points off either]. I'm on the Iona next Saturday and will try it again to see if it was a one off.

Yeah that is one solution people use I think they advise you not to though. I think some lines even have stewards pull them out.

Worked on Iona as well ... Cabin Steward did remove it. He only went in once a day, when I was at Brekkie, so if I needed to charge anything I did it after this.

You can charge your devices in your room while out. Just slip an old hotel key or gift card into the slot. Just turn off the lights. Then your devices can charge away.

Definitely, they do like to tell you not to leave things plugged in when you're out of your room though.

Currently I'm booked on deck 10, would it be worth trying to move to deck 11 for the Solo Lounge or is it pretty easy to move between decks within the solo area?

The weird thing about that is I never noticed that but having stayed in an inside cabin on another cruise were the TV was positioned at the end if the bed I fully get that.

I just noticed that a few, including mine on the Breakaway are adjoined cabins! Who books a Studio cabin wanting it joining with another? Friends who want access to the other's cabin?

Yeah that is a bit odd. Maybe there is some unique requirement were people want access but a certain level privacy. Apparently the solo cabins are also often used by non-solo people. According to my steward people who are with other people or family groups book them if they are the odd one out in terms of room sharing.

Haha, good point. If it helps I am 5'10 I was about 15st (you may need to convert it to pounds if you're in the US} and I was wearing 38inch waste trousers! So not a slim Jim bit also not very large.

Hi Marty Yeah I didn't vlog the holiday as such. I did some vlogs either side on Disneyland but it felt odd walking around with the camera on the cruise ship. Not sure why, I do realise other people do it.
