We had a fantastic local tour guide in Florence. Actually she gave us 45 more minutes for our tour than she was supposed to! We would definitely visit Florence and Barcelona again.

Doo you recommend going the route you took or do a tour for Pisa and Florence?

We like exploring on our own, we did make a couple of mistakes, but hopefully you wont make them either. So if we did this again. We would taxi to the train station instead of taking the bus. Once we got to Pisa, we would get off at the station thats closer to the tower rather than the main terminal which ended up being about a 25 minute walk. The tour is nice, but your own the tours schedule and not your own. If you only have one day, I would suggest a guided tour.

Next year I will be overnighting at Livorno. Regarding transportation, did the ship have a specific time the busses stop running to drop off passengers back onto the ship for overnight stays? I want to enjoy all day but I also want to make sure I make it back before the busses stop operation for the night

They did have a schedule posted you could see. If you miss the bus you can still take a taxi

Did you stay overnight in Florence? We will be on this same cruise in November. Plan: first day in Florence independent travel & Uffizzi, day 2 booked an excursion to Pisa & walking tour of Florence.

We didn’t stay overnight but your plan is a good one. Do your own independent stuff on the first day. If something happens you’ll still have the next day to get back to the ship. Have fun!
