Saltstraumen in the municipality of Bodø in Northern Norway on an autumn day. Saltstraumen is the strongest tidal current in the world. Up to 400,000,000 cubic meters of seawater forces its way through a 3 kilometer long and 150 meter wide strait every six hours. Whirlpools or maelstroms up to 10 meters in diameter and 5 meters in depth are formed when the current is at its strongest

it's interesting that in a few other tidal rapids there are whirlpools as wide as 30% to 50% of this entire straight and altho it's not impossible , it is very rare to see whirlpools comparable to the size of the rapids that form them but as far as I know there's not even one tidal rapid with this characteristic , and I've realy tried to find one

@@tursidensalten8402 OK!? That´s surprisingly few considering that if you fall into the water it feels like you have quite a small chance of survival, even if you wear a life jacket. Feels like it would just prolong the pain :(

@@Sittin. Yeah, i guess people are good at staying away from the edge when the current is at the strongest. From 1900 to 1970 15 people are recorded drowned by boat accidents, i guess the boats got better from 1970. The remaining 35 maybe fell into the water, not much info to find about this subject
