59 year old drunken wild man from NZ here. Everyone my age, despite musical tastes sees Glen Campbell as a legend. We would sing his songs at primary school in the late sixties and early seventies and when watching this, I appreciate my childhood education. Stay well..

😂 My dad was a Glen Campbell fan in the 60s and 70s, and I liked him, along with my dad’s other albums, Bob Dylan, The Kingston Trio, Ian and Sylvia, Bluegrass. But I didn’t tell my friends. Lol. I eventually got in to everything rock music, Beatles, Beach Boys, The Who, Rush, etc. Now I’m 62, and I appreciate the older stuff more than ever.

His lack of coolness wasn’t about his guitar, it was about his not taking a position opposing the war in Vietnam.

One of the joys of YT is discovery. I grew up in the age of Glen Campbell's successful years. I never really gave him that much credit because he was too pop, too middle of the road. Now, that I'm in my 70's and I get to listen again and realize how great he was. I always knew he was a great picker. I'm finding that I am especially appreciating what a great singer he was when you could hear him live. You might be surprised, I never knew who Carl Jackson was before. He floored me with his playing. I'm going to explore.

Most people think of Glen Campbell as a singer. But he was a wonderful virtuoso on the guitar. Watch how effortless this famously difficult piece is to him, and he was SELF TAUGHT. A truly God-given talent. R.I.P.

The REASON??? our Wedding Night, and Glen joked with me about being in the audience instead of in bed, the whole Audience gave us a standing ovation it was wonderful, And a week later my wife recieved a letter and lots of records and goodies from Glens staff. Wow! This was--by FAR--the best rendition of this song I've ever heard! I've played guitar for nearly 50 years (no good on the banjo!), and absolutely agree that Glen was an incredible guitarist (among other talents)! With this disclaimer, it genuinely appeared that Glen was no only equally yoked with Carl, but that Carl appeared to be presenting a literal challenge to Glen. VERY well done, Gentlemen!!!

Glen Campbell is regarded by many to be one of the finest guitarists ever. He was a legend in studio work before he became famous to the public and played with the "wrecking Crew", a collective of LA-based musicians who played on the recordings of dozens of famous musicians. He was a terrific singer, songwriter, and entertainer. I was a teenager when he emerged with top-charting singles in the 60s and even saw him live in concert on August 5, 1969, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum, in Indianapolis. I still remember what a great show it was! Something many don't know is that he filled in for Brian Wilson, touring with the Beach Boys, playing bass and singing the falsetto harmonies, in 1964 and 1965.

What I take from this clip , is he was a fantastic musician , and a generous man with a warm sense of humour . Anybody would be proud too be known for any single thing in that list . Yet here he was , on top of the world ,& no sign of any sort of inflated star ego . He was a remarkable man , who any rising star should look too , when they need an example to follow .

This is great! He kept letting him have it, and the kid kept up very well!

Robin18us Yeah, I agree, the kid was in the lead and tearing up a very fast pace. Pretty awesome all around.

Phil P. Nope. The kid kept up quite well, with Glen in the lead. That's how the song is played. The banjo is a louder instrument.

+alan30189 Carl Jackson could have played that banjo so fast, it would have sounded like a husqvarna chainsaw slicing through a hickory log. But he took it easy on old Glenn.

+Telelikeitis Uhh, he wasn't old here, but compared to Jackson, he was older.

A fantastic guitarist and a stellar vocalist. A huge talent and a sad loss. And I say this as a die-hard heavy metal fan.

True metal-heads recognize great guitar playing no matter the genre. 100% agree.

@@artgilbert5182 I used to listen to As I lay Dying, Arch Enemy, Machine Head on occasion, and eventually transferred through to appreciating Glen, Roy, Chet Akins, Gary Moore, David Gilmour off the back of raving about Buckethead, Zakk Wylde, Mick Thompson. So in a way I guess we could say that Metal is a gateway genre.
