I'm going with the Crows cause I've seen all the faction glams and like them the most, followed by shadow dragons and veil jumpers, and I'm interested in a spellblade playthrough first. I figure the gear may be more beneficial faster, and the potion can't hurt lol Still debating between an Elf or Qunari for the run tho.

I’ll be playing through all of them, too, but I can’t decide whether to go with a Shadow Dragon mage or a Lords of Fortune rogue on my first playthrough! Whichever I don’t pick first goes second, then the rest: Antivan Crows dagger-wielding rogue, Mournwatch necromancer mage, Veil Jumper archer rogue and finally, Grey Warden warrior. Hmm, can you tell rogues and mages are my favorite? 😂

I loved Zevran in Origins, so i feel a strange connection with Antivan Crows. Would love to use that faction in my first playthrough. Second will be Grey Wardens. :)

Unless they've been strongly reworked, the Antivan Crows are definitely not the Assassin's Brotherhood of AC games. They're contract killers. They do seem to have been ennobled a bit in the story as defenders of Antiva against the Antaam (Qunari military). Still, they're contract killers, not servants of the downtrodden or whatever. All of the Factions look cool. I really don't know which I'll choose. Grey Wardens, Shadow Dragons, Veil Jumpers, and Mourn Watch all seem particularly enticing given the current state of the world.

@@Zakharon And maybe they'll truly become something more noble than they've been. It doesn't change their past. Of course, the writers can reframe the Crows however they choose. I wouldn't be surprised by more than a few soft retcons. Many of the people working on this game were not around for the earlier installments, and writers often love to make their own marks.

Qunari are taking over the crows territory, of course they would fight to gain their turf back. And the Qunari specifically attacked the crows first in Tevinter Nights so this is also them getting payback on the Qun, being seen as protectors during the process is just a benefit. And a large number of the people who wrote for Veilguard are people who have been on the series for years. Weekes, Kirby, and Epler have written for bioware for years and are veterans of the series.

Antivan Crow city elven mage/spellblade. It is common for the crows to use elves and an apostate’s magic can come in handy for assassinations.

As I always play a Mage on my 1st playthrough of any Dragon Age game, I'll be choosing the Shadow Dragons faction. As a boost to class resources will give my Mage a boost to their mana regen so I can use my spells more often than with any other background. It should work out great with a build meant to control the battlefield and being able to pump out spells at a faster rate. Plus with a warrior to draw aggro and a rogue for dps either close up or at range, it'll make combat easier as my mage softens up targets for my warrior and rogue companions to take out. If the combat is what I think it'll be the warrior companion will draw more aggro with each kill so weakening enemies and have a tank obliterate them will leave my ranged mage relatively free from consistent aggro. Then my dps rogue drawing aggro from the high dps. Which will allow a well built mage to conquer every battle.

Right now I'm leaning toward Shadow Dragons because. 1. They're a chaotic-good faction, which, as I learn more about the world, I become more and more. 2. The backstory seems to be the only one where the result was somewhat positive for Rook, whereas the others, Rook seemed to have been punished or made enemies within the faction because of it. 3. The resource generation is probably the best buff for a mage, and I usually play mages.

First playthrough I played a male human rogue with crow faction. Romanced Harding. Reason I picked that faction is I just randomly picked one and actually felt the faction was heavily tied into the main story. Second playthrough I’m going male mage elf tied with the mourn watch. Either romancing emmrich or davrin. Reason I picked this one is cause I have a backstory for my character and felt his backstory fit in rather nicely. In a previous life my elf was fighting for Solas against the gods, and was killed towards the end. Rook was then reincarnated into the infant that was found by the mourn watchers. Rook was not expecting to be reborn into a new vessel. He heard a voice calling his name while in his spirit form and when he followed the voice he found himself in complete darkness until the mourn watchers found him. Due to his reincarnation his memories of his past life are more like a dream to him now that is extremely misty and he can’t really make out.

I have 5 different Rooks in mind but I think my first will be a dwarf grey warden. For one, excited to be a warden again! For another, I thought a dwarf sounded good because we get to see how Solas's actions affect the elves, but what about the dwarves!? I had played it through twice so far. Two mages. I played Lilya Ingellvar of the Mournwatch first, romancing Lucanis, saving Treviso and having the perfect Ending. My second playthrough was Chaya Mercar, (having Matt Mercer as Viper made me feel rather close to him with that last name xD) and I romanced Emmrich, saving Minrathous and having again a perfect Ending. In Both Solavellan had it's happy Ending. Tho I still think the game does not feel like Dragon Age, it just kept showing me why Dragon Age is so cool without really delivering Dragon Age so I started to play Origins again.

I'm hoping to do a playthrough as each class over an extended period of time. Pretty sure I'll do the Antivan Crows for my rogue, the Mournwatch for my mage, and either the Gray Wardens or the Shadow Dragons for my warrior. It ultimately depends how much I end up liking the game, whether I feel it has enough reasons for multiple playthroughs, and whether there end up being multiple characters I want to romance. My favorite game in the series to date was Dragon Age 2 and I played it three times to romance Anders (first), Fenris (second) and Merrill (third) on different playthroughs.

I'm planning on making a Qunari saarebas (mage-necromancer) Warden. One reason is because there has never been a Qunari Warden before. Varric and The Iron Bull mention rumors of Tal-Vashoth taking the joining, but they obviously failed. I want my Rook to be the first. I have a whole RP plan set up for why my Qunari joined the Wardens, being a Tal-Vashoth is part of it, but I don't know how much dialogue choices there will be to successfully allow my RP, but I have a template written up just in case: Being a saarebas his life under the Qun was already in danger, but if found out he communes with spirits, he would have his tongue cut out and lips sewn. So, before his magic grew stronger, he left the Qun (although not abandoning some of its teachings, like everyone having a place in the world) and thought the Wardens was the calling the Qun intended for him.

Seems like all of the background stories are "chaotic good guy does the right thing but offends the mean, corrupt powers that be by doing so." I like that there are so many options here, but in a way it seems less diverse than Mass Effect's service histories even though there were only three of those. War Hero, Ruthless, and Sole Survivor were all pretty radically different from one another in terms of the protagonist's actions, motivations, and achievements (which could be roleplayed in a number of different ways throughout the series).

I just decided to romance Harding, because I really adored her in Inquisition and just went from there. It's been a long time since I've played a dwarf, so I wanna go with that - we'll make a nice short king and queen couple, I think. Propably I'll just play as a Grey Warden Fighter, which might sound relatively boring, but I really _do_ want to function as a shield for both Harding and whichever mage I'm gonna take on missions more often; Neve or Emmrich. I know your team mates don't really need protecting, but I'm doing it for the roleplaying aspect. Also you keep calling Davrin DavrOn... what's up with that?

This video literally just reads everything off the screen and says “X belongs to this faction - if you like them, pick that.” You should not pick your faction based on your companions - you should pick it based on your class. For example, it makes no sense to be a warrior Mourn Watcher.

@@norwaypete Warrior should to be a good choice, seeing how this time the champion specialization seems to be the warden’s signature class. I don’t like the qunari’s redesign either. I liked them the best in DA2. I actually think DA2 had the best race designs, because every one looked *very* unique and distinctive. Qunari were beast like, the elves had big, beautiful eyes and ears. Now the qunari look like humans with horns. Not a big fan of the art style in general. Seems kinda off-putting.

I like mage class throughout the d.a. series. So I guess the mourn watch or the other mage of the death, I forgot the name. Mage always feels better than other classes so far. Did bioware mix up what's strongest. I can't wait.

In my opinion I don't think Background gvies you anything significant to feel important. Crows give you an... extra potion and that's it. I hope it would have more impact the story thou.

Don’t get the hate for the game. I’m going for a male elven shadow dragon mage that is an ex tevinter slave that yearns to learn his elven roots and culture. Wanted it to come down to an elf fixing the world the other elves are breaking.

Man I could play a whole game just about Veil Jumpers. That's essentially how I roleplay all my RPGs anyways - like Inquisition or Skyrim. Elf Mage researching ancient ruins and artifacts. They look like airbenders too XD.

It’s a finishing move when an enemy is at low health. It is usually very cinematic and more visually interesting than most of the fighting. In origins, they were mostly moments when you’d chop the head off of an enemy.

@@geoffreycannon2197 but is it every attack can just trigger automatically so would also be useful for ranged characters or only for melee. In some game for example forspoken you had to be close and push a button.

Nope imma be an antivan spellblade my first play through then a mourn watcher mage my second playthrough, shadow dragon third, lord of fortune 4th, then veil jumper and grey warden the first two in that order the others depends on how I feel but my first playthrough of each faction will be mage then either rogue or warrior who knows

Gonna be a rogue, dwarven, Shadow Dragon. Adopted by a family that (I head-canon) originally came out of slavery, and now fights against the institution that abused and oppressed his family for so long.

Im cautiously optimistic about the game. As long as they nail the story, character development, consequences of choice and decent combat. I'm sold, though I will say that I'm not a fan of the Qunari and darkspawns design.
