OK, this movie's beyond silly, but the actors do seem to be genuinely trying to embrace the camp. :)

funny thing is...compared to the better version of Babes in Toyland, I like the villain's outfit, it was quite well-elaborated, with the featers that made him look lik a vulture or a raven. A nice touch.

Chris McWilliams This film was made when parents still taught their kids useful skills like cooking, hard work, job skills and basic morality. Then the 1990s happened. Clinton went public with his addiction of women, the gay movement got out of hand, the radio stations started to support gangster rap and anything evil, kids became obsessed with video games and many parents stopped caring.
@LibraGamesUnlimited9 жыл бұрын
hackman669 So wanting the same rights as everyone else is 'out of hand'? Wow, surprised I can hear you all the way from the 1950's.
@hackman6699 жыл бұрын
Chris McWilliams I did not mean any disrespect. I meant to say that the movement was pushed out of perspective. Remember during the late 1990s with the OJ Simpson trial? The trial became a media frenzy and was featured overkill. They even cancelled children's programing to show the trial! How does a murder trial of a defamed athlete have to do with children and wasting countless hours on a guy that only a hard core sports fan cares about? In the same context the gay liberation movement was pushed into everything. You couldn't even watch a tv movie without some politician or even a religious nut putting his, and it was almost always a guy, two cents in.
@LibraGamesUnlimited9 жыл бұрын
hackman669 I do agree the OJ trial coverage was ridiculous however I guess people were watching and it got the ratings they want. As for the rest I'm still a little fuzzy on where you're coming from exactly.

I love Christmas too, but I could really do without the heavy traffic, crowds, noise, and long lines in stores. The only thing resembling a downside to the holiday. But other that that, I LOVE it! I especially like the Salvation Army outside stores with their bells and kettles taking in donations for the poor, and the United States Marines collecting money and presents for Toys For Tots. I love seeing that commercial of the little girl talking to a Marine who's standing still not making a move or a facial gesture. She's asking him if he is Santa Claus and telling him that she has a wishlist for Christmas. Then the Marine opens his gloved hand a bit offering to take the slip of paper the list is written out on and she hands it to him. I LOVE that commercial! It makes me want to cry.

After seeing this, I prefer the original Babes In Toyland that starred Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy back in 1934. At least their Toyland looked like a town out of children's old nursery rhymes and fairy tales. The sets in this one have no imagination. I liked the villainous Barnaby character back then as well. A crooked man living in a crooked house......not a bowling ball! I preferred his army of Boogymen over rancid Christmas tree monsters. They came close to demolishing Toyland if it weren't for Laurel and Hardy bringing an entire army of 6 ft wooden soldiers to life to combat Barnaby and the Boogymen. Want to watch Babes In Toyland? I recommend that version over this stale 1986 one.

What really drove me crazy about the Disney Babes in Toyland was that one scene where the good guy and bad guy are shrunk by that toy machine or whatever and start fighting. They are fighting while the heroine, full-sized heroine sits in a corner cowering. She's f-ing the size of a skyscraper compared to them but because it's the 60's she should be useless no matter if she could pick the bad guy up and hurl him across the room. Gad!

Has anybody else noticed that this version of Babes in Toyland is basically a ripoff of The Wizard of Oz (the 1939 movie to be more precise)? Think about it, this is about a girl who gets transported to a "magical" world after an accident in a storm, meets people that look like people she knows in the real world and by the end has a better appreciation of the life she has. (Well in an extremely contrived way) Also, I'm from Cincinnati, we don't sing that song.

There is one thing that bothers me about not just nostalgia critic but people in general. I don't enjoy the holidays. I don't. I don't have to go into detail because my reasons are my own. But i have to point out that because of that i see these holiday movies are very different for me. They have a meaning for me that just equate to other people. I also have to point out that a lot of people also don't like this time of year. So here it is. I have problem with people who enjoy things that i don't. Weird right? However all i really want is someone to point this out. There are people who inately don't enjoy these things. So instead of doing things like this, show us the true greatness of humanity and why things are great this time of year. Just do it. I know it's not hard. But come on, we just need more of it.
