Home Alone: HOLIDAY CLASSIC Home Alone 2: Decent, but not as timeless as the original Home Alone 3: Medicore, at least they chose to ditch the kevin character with the new characters because Culkin was getting older at the time Home Alone 4: an abomination against humanity

One of the Few Times I disagree with NC. Home Alone 1 and 2 = GOLD Home Alone 3, not nearly as ghood but It was decent enough. Hell It would be hard to compete with the first two. 4 and 5: Holy shit who ever wrote those should be given to Hannibal Lector

Yeah right. here's whats wrong with it 1) I do believe you have to be of age to buy some of the thing he bought at the hardware store. 2) Malcolm Mcdowell 3)Who spends 2000 dollars to buy these things. In 1, 2, and 3 the kids showed resourcefulness and took advantage of what they had in hand. 4) Malcolm Macdowell as the leader of the crooks. 5) The fact that this movie exists at all

I know I can't be the only person who thinks Home Alone 2 was a better film than Home Alone 1. It has, overall, a more prominent "christmasy" feel to it than the first flick. Oh, and any Home Alone flick beyond 2 is garbage. Please stop making these cheap knockoffs. Home Alone isn't Home Alone without Pesci, Stern, and Culkin (which of course means there will only ever be 2 true Home Alone films).

I understand the criticisms against Home Alone 2. How it's just a copy paste of the first one, which I kinda agree. 1. Starts with Buzz teasing Kevin which leads to Kevin retaliating but causing trouble whilst doing so and the family blaming Kevin whilst Buzz gets off easy. 2. Have Kevin be happy that he's separated from his family because of them ridiculing him. 3. Have Kevin throw his own little parties and feast on gross amounts of food. 4. Have Kevin use strings and a device that can play music to create the illusion of a dancing person to trick one of the villains that he is with an adult. 5. Have Kevin meet someone who afraid of being rejected. 6. Have Kevin compare a seemingly simple situation like rollerskates to said persons fear of rejection said person to convince them to at least try to get in touch with people they fear will reject them. 7. Have Harry's head get set on fire. 8. At the end of large scale trap sequence have Harry and Marv climbing down a rope which Kevin sabotages, making them fall. 9. Briefly cut back and forth between Kevin and his mother screaming at people to get to her son. 10. Have Kevin and only the mother reunited at first because the rest of the family couldn't come with.

I think that all the Home Alone sequels and rip offs just show that the original was that one freak accident. Not like a bad accident, but one of those movies that comes along that just clearly cannot be duplicated as it came at the right time and did the right things. A lot of movies seem to be like that though as you can see when everyone tries to duplicate it and they fail.

2 sucks, it was a cheap word-for-word ripoff the 1st. That made the whole look even stupidier for having to relearn everything all over again. 3 is awesome for being original, brought in new/more villians and higher stakes what with the (inter)national security threat (though admitingly, it woulda been flawless if it took place in this or the next decade where Alex is Kevin's son)
@YTWarrior100
@YTWarrior100 7 жыл бұрын
+J-Guy 2 ROCKS. It's even better than the first one. It's not a ripoff of the 1st at all. It merely has a similar plot to the first. He's not even actually left home. As the title says, he's lost in New York. The film also does some things even funnier than the first film. It can get overly familiar at a few points, but it's not a carbon copy of the first. It's a great movie.

Gamefan56 yeah, ok, I admit,this movie did take it too far. I suspect the terrorist plot was in the original story treatment for home alone 3 where it would be about a teenage kevin. But then when they replaced Kevin with Alex, they decided to keep the terrorist plot in.

My big problem with Home Alone 3 is that, in Home Alone and Home Alone 2, there's a central point. There's a message about family, about doing what you have to do when you're backed into a corner, about not giving up when you're facing horrific odds, about looking past what people appear to be to see who they are. Home Alone 3 is an action movie starring a kid genius devoid of any message beyond "Criminals are stupid and you can beat them up if you're more or less omniscient!"

I think that's just cause when we're kids our standards are lower since we don't really know better. I mean I used to love Power Rangers when I was a little kid but when I tried rewatching them on Netflix......it was one of those moments I wish I had a time machine so that I could just deck my younger self for being so stupid. I mean some things I liked as a kid I can sort of enjoy even today but it's mostly for the nostalgia but even then I find myself disliking it. Hell, try rewatching classic Disney films as if you've never seen them before and with a critical mind. I found that I came to really REALLY dislike a lot of them like Cinderella for example cause ultimately she gets her happily ever after cause a prince thought she was pretty and not because he saw her as the kind, caring and strong woman she was (don't even get me started on the other ones where they meet for 4 seconds and know they are meant to be).

Qwazzy well the first movie was more believable because the thiefs were complete idiots, in this one they are professional spies. sure he did traps in the first one, but they were realistic and not millimeter specific like most in this one. and sure stepping on nail was bad but fuck it I think I have actually seen that lawn mower scene in actual horror movie. the only thing missing is blood. in this one the kid is like a fucking genius, in the first one it was just normal everyday kid.

I kind of liked the third movie. It didn't make any sense, but it was action packed, and had plenty of slapstick. The fourth one has absolutely no slapstick, no traps of any kind, not humor, and shitty characters. And some of the worst dialog I've ever heard. The characters almost seem like parodies of themselves.

At the end there, I'd like to think that's what was actually going through John Hugh's head at the time. He'd already written two, and he was out of ideas for this franchise, so he just wanted it to be done with. It's like Bill Waterson with Calvin and Hobbes, both wanted to end their creations when they were out of ideas, and let it end. But Hugh's was under contracts, he had no choice.

Okay, you're gonna pelt me with stones for this, but... I like this one. If you don't like it, fine, but I found it enjoyable. It ditched a number of the bad things from the first two films: 1. The family members aren't jerks. Okay, the siblings act like it, but they only get a bit vicious after two "false" police calls that damage the family badly, and once it's made clear that Alex is in real danger, they show genuine concern for his safety, even standing up to a high-ranking FBI agent because they want to know just how much danger he's in. I know the mom leaves Alex a number of times, but she makes sure he's able to contact her and that an emergency babysitter is available. 2. The police, while unable to catch the crooks until the end, are not really useless, per say. The crooks are just that good at covering their tracks. After the second call, they don't mad at Alex or anything--the police chief sternly, but gently, lectures him about the seriousness of calling the police, and after Alex stomps off, he tells Mrs. Prewitt that he doesn't want this incident to discourage Alex from calling them again in the event that something actually happens. I admit that the plot was a little odd: 8-year-old wiz-kid taking on four terrorists. But the characters are just more likable. There aren't any obnoxious in-laws, the older brother here is positively saintly compared to Buzz, the sister isn't too bad (we even see a picture of the three of them together looking rather happy), the mom doesn't leave Alex totally defenseless, the dad seems like a nice guy, and Alex--like a good citizen--immediately calls the police when there's an emergency, and he only resorts to using traps after police intervention fails not once, but twice.

It undid all the development the characters had gone through in the first movie only to have them go through the EXACT same development AGAIN in a far less interesting and believable way. The only reason doesn't get grouped with the other sequels as being bad, even though it should, is because it's pretty much just a shot for shot remake of the first just using different settings.

"Home Alone" still remains as one of my favorite Christmas flicks of all time. "Home Alone 2: Lost In New York" was also great. I disagree with Doug's statement on that one being terrible. The only thing "Home Alone 3" had going for it were the booby-traps. Admittedly, I actually found that one to be enjoyable, despite its stupid moments and that it lacks the charm that the first two movies had. As for the pieces of shit known as "Home Alone 4" and "Home Alone 5", I like to pretend that those ones NEVER happened.

I know it ain't the same as the first two. But at least it is tolerable. As for Home Alone 4...don't nobody ask me my opinion about it. I haven't seen Home Alone 5 and you know what? I don't plan to so don't nobody bother asking me about that. Thank you and have a good day and/or night.

1277Jerry Me too, 1 and 3 were great but 2 sucked. Too little traps and not even at home so the title made no sense.

I don't know what is more disappointing that the "chip" is actually a PCB with I think a couple of 386's glued to the bottom or the fact that home alone 3 managed to get closer to the kind of situation that such a device would actually use than modern day crime dramas.

Uhhhh, how can you be dissing slapstick..... if you praise Tom & Jerry? How does that work? T&J is like the cartoon version of the freaking Three Stooges. Now, I'm not defending this movie, Oh God no, it sucked, but bashing Flubber and Dennis the Menace?

There´s good slapstick, and then there´s bad slapstick. And if you want to know why he hates Flubber, check his review.

I did. I still don't understand it, really. I mean, it's Disney, everything there is meant just to be silly and kinda stupid. I found that movie hilarious as a child. And in the end, it's meant for kids, so I think the movie achieved it's goals.

Raid Man He didn't so much hate it for it's silliness, but because of the incredibly unlikable/stupid/disturbing characters.
