Ultimately, Guardiola's Sole mistake was 2/3 years ago when he over-trusted himself that he could go on forever winning without keeping his eyes on renewing and acquiring new top players. Definitely, Guardiola is poor when it comes to choosing new players at the end of each season. In other words, you might say he is victim of the 'Do not change a winning team!' But if you look at it deeper, you should change all the time and the change should be very technical, because even if your team is winners that you can't change, other teams are evolving and changing and keeping their eyes on world's top players.

I cannot say it better. I started to feel annoyed and confused by City's recruitment strategy after winning the Champions League. By then, Bayern and Saudi teams were offering a few millions for Walker, and PSG was serious about Silva. I felt that it was a very good two-sided opportunity: rejuvenating the team by releasing these aging players and keeping Porro for Walker and Palmer for Bernaldo. What they did was the opposite. One year later, instead of learning from the previous mistake, when Alvez asked about assurance of increased playing time, the answer was to release him as well, and here we are with an imbalanced team. Also, I noticed that Pep has an attitude of keeping players that he cannot trust on the pitch as long as they don't annoy him by asking for playing time. I guess it's why he kept Gomez, Scott, Phillips, and now McAttee for so long, which is biting him back, as those he loves to give time to are injured, and he is stuck with these he cannot, which makes me wonder, what is the purpose of filling the bench with these kids if you cannot trust them with any minutes????
