Ibanez have always delivered great value for money across all ranges. Unfortunately, and just like many other rock /metal oriented brands, their designs are very distinct and get unfairly looked down upon by many guitar snobs. Most guitar channels (at least a great deal of them ) keep pushing the extremely biased idea you need an old fender or Gibson to get a good guitar tone. Or, of course, a top of the range PRS. Lies aimed at selling re-issues of the previous re-issues of guitars designed back in the 50's, which although undeniably great instruments, have not offered anything new to the player for decades (and no, the silver sky is not innovative, Sorry not sorry...) Ibanez, like many other brands, manufactures incredibly versatile instruments valid in pretty much any musical outlet. If they're good enough for Satriani,Vai, Scofield or the almighty Metheny, they're good enough for everybody else. Rant over 😅

You hit the nail on the head when you said versatile. My RG550 does everything. Yes, it is a metal guitar and a great one. But, it is absolutely not limited to that. The tonnel range is astounding. Cleans, crunch, high gain, high boost, it all sounds great. Jazz, blues, rock, probably country but I don’t know. All sounds great. My absolute favorite is to play it clean with a chorus, some reverb and just a touch of delay. Luscious!

@@jepunbiru no it definitly isnt japan made, its far too cheap for that. The only difference i spotted is the tremolo: the 370 has a edge 2 zero (which has a little turning wheel at the back to adjust for the tension of the springs and has zero point return springs to help with tuning stability) while this seems to me to be a edge III without this getting back mechanism and with the higher profile of the fine tuning machines in the back. edit: just realized that Dans guitar in the video (other than the pictures of the linked 470 from sweatwater) has the edge zero II, so it seems to be the exact same guitar.

My first guitar was a japanese RG-570, about 19 years ago I got it from guitar center. Even upgraded the pickups... but then I sold it, and I'm very upset that I did :'(. I have a cheaper fixed bridge (which has it's benefits) RG now that's decent but doesn't compare... I miss the 5 way switch with the single coil, this one just has two humbuckers, and I often want a brighter tone. That position 4 was my favorite for cleans, just awesome. The rg570 cost about 500-550 at the time I believe, and it played incredibly. Absolutely a high end guitar at a (then) mid-range price - except for the stock pickups (powersounds at the time), they were not great. I didn't upgrade the single coil though, that might have been nice, since the straight middle position while certainly bright was a little thin/brittle sounding, and as he pointed out the volume was quite a bit lower, although you can raise it up to help a bit, but go too far and the magnets will affect your strings. Oh, my current one is an RG2EX2 in white, which I think was a guitar center specific model that was basically the same as some other model. It's actually a pretty good looking guitar, and the one area it beats the 570 - the rings around the pickups are metal whereas even the 570 back in the day had plastic pickup rings, although you could swap those out if you wanted. They're necessary for holding the pickups in place though unless you drilled and screwed them into the body. It plays well it's just no Japanese 570, and I miss the fun you can have with a floyd, even though I kept mine blocked off half the time with a stack of quarters taped together. The new bridge tensioning system they have in the backplate now is awesome though, far superior to the older models.

Over the past 6 years or so as I've sold stuff off and kept what I want I have one Gibson LP, 2 PRS Core, 1 PRS SE and 4 Ibanez (different levels). New strings, and a couple small adjustments, it plays and sounds killer, very solid, it wasn't expensive either. I play it almost as much as my more expensive guitars. I had to adjust the height a little to balance them out a bit, but for the money it looks beautiful and can sound really good. Playing it is a nice change from my Les Paul’s and Fender Strats etc, tuning is pretty stable as well. It just happens to be on a stand in my living room right now coincidentally, and I’ve been playing it for the last fortnight. Considering that I have many more high end guitars, I haven’t felt the need to swap it out for a change just yet. A testament to its fun factor... 🎸👍

Dark red w/ blk pickguard, push/push tone knob to split the bridge humbucker, 2 (weak) single coils and a tremolo system you could beat the crap out of (ala Brad Gillis of Night Ranger) and it stayed in tune. Fast forward to 2020 and my $500 Jem Jr won't stay in tune at all. The collar that the bar goes into won't stay tight. I keep the back plate off due to constantly having to tighten the Allen screw.

Good, you can get a 150$, 500$, 800$, 1300$ or a 2000$ one while still getting """the same guitar""" (of course with a huge quality difference between the top level J. Custom and the "pleb" Gio, even though Gios aren't that bad for their price tag, better than most other entry level brands imho)

Great review video!! Thinking about buying my son this guitar. I have a gio from like 2002 and not a bad guitar, my son plays it in church now. Have a Jackson also I like the hotter pick ups on it more than the gio and it stays tunes a little better.

RG is the model, the other thing is a form to get it classified, for example, there's 300 series and 400 series, the 400 sells in america, and the 300 series sells in the rest of the world, 20, 70 is the hardware configuration, so 20 is HH and 70 is HSH, an the last number, 0 is for floating bridge, and 1 is for fixed bridge, the rest of the letters corresponds on the material and hardware, AHMZ A=ash top H=mahogany body M= maple neck Z= is the edge zero tremolo, if you find a model that doesn't have that z is just a regular tremolo (floyd style) without tuning stability sistem, hope it is useful, also want to say sorry if i have some gramatical errors, english is not my main language

I’ve never been a fan of Ibanez either but after searching for my next guitar I ended up purchasing the Nita Strauss Jiva 10. The Jiva is the most effortless playing guitar that I have ever owned. The pickups with switch selector provides endless tones. I have been very happy to own my Jiva.

I have the rg470dx with a Floyd rose tremolo. Barren moon front on it. Made the mistake of trying to tune it without first loosening the locking nut. Snap!! High E popped. So I took it to a local luthier and got some d’addario strings ( 10’s ) it’s my third favorite guitar after my c-6 elite Schecter, my most favorite is the modern style Epiphone les Paul.

Best frets on the market , best floating bridge on the market , best action , neck , etc . Great pickups ... but , very very pointy . That same guitar with a more classic appearance would be my go to

Everyone says Ibanez has the best action on the market, and I believe it because they own the shredding niche. But what I don’t understand is why anyone would want a higher action that essentially just makes the guitar harder to play? Beginners especially should be gravitating towards low action and buttery smooth fretting, not chasing down Jimi Hendrix’s tone, right?

From 2008-2011 ibanez made an RG3exfm1...long enough? It was only sold at guitar center. You can pick one up used for 250-350 and its every bit as good as an rg550. Has the v7 and 8 pickups. Same electronics. Neck and body binding. Great hardware. Flame maple top. Beautiful finish. Wizard neck. If you want an 800$ guitar for cheap its a winner

that is the exact guitar me and my mother purchased for my 15 year old sister for her first instrument. Definitely a good playing instrument. I must say though, I think the RG is kind of in a gray area. It's really not pointy but it is at the same time. It's like a Stratocaster with a little extra something something. I would consider the Explorer or something similar to that more of a pointy guitar lol. I think it's classier looking...

I bought that same model of guitar in 2017 and I couldn’t tolerate the quality. The dimarzio designed pickups are mid at best, and regarding the bridge tremolo system It’s chipped around the posts and became completely useless, I still need to replace it to this day. I upgraded the pickups pretty soon after owning the guitar. I found that I flattened the frets from them being soft. Another thing is the dark nickel plating rubbed off everywhere, plus I got tired of the pickup surrounds aesthetically; not really something I look for in a truly modern guitar these days. I decided to sell off the pickups and save up for a charvel dk24 pro mod which was 1000x better. Didn’t have to upgrade the pickups on that so I’d say I broke even at the time, minus the fact I still have the RG collecting dust, I’ve been meaning to let it go.
