I know this was a hard video to post, but I'm telling you one day you gonna look back on this and laugh when the kid is doing it for a living somewhere. Right in the moment I know it's not funny and it makes your stomach sink. Lot of money and work goes into these things, but good on you guys for still posting it, and this is a learning experience for Talan. Hot laps or not, the best lessons are unfortunately the ones learned by failure. For what it's worth reading the other top comment here I didn't see any of this as tearing Talan down at all. You were upset and showing emotions instead of suppressing them, and that's better than the opposite IMO.

That’s awesome that Talan offered to put his money into the repairs! I agree without a license he can’t do much! As I said previously, you are doing an amazing job raising your son and it’s none of my business just thought I would throw a suggestion out there! Obviously you had already discussed the money part of it and Talan understands and appreciates his sponsors! Keep digging and if y’all were closer to me I would volunteer to help fix it!

So many want to get on you dad but you are just being truthful to him and trying to teach what he needs. I don't think you are being or asking to much. Most parents want to give a excuse for everything there kid does wrong. He just needed to hear the truth and you gave him that. Talan is a very talented young man and growth will come from failure. So thankful car owner knows that. You guys have a great relationship in my opinion and your wife and daughter are priceless.

@@talanwillisracing5910 pretty sure he knew he made a mistake before he even hit the wall. That’s why he is going into 100% passive mode when you confront him. Cuz he is already embarrassed AF even though he shouldn’t be. EVERY Race car driver will wreck no matter the Caliber/ Level of skill that they withhold. Let me ask you this. What are the couple days after like between y’all after he makes a mistake in the cockpit? I ask because between my father and myself we go at each other at the time of the incident and after that we let it go.

The video is just a small sample of the talks behind the scenes! He was very upset with himself and knew he made a mistake, that’s why I didn’t scold him! He handled it perfectly in my eyes! Adam you’re doing a great job teaching Talan and raising him to be responsible! The only thing I see that you might want to add is for Talan to have to come up with a certain amount of money in order to help with this repair! Make him get a job of some sort and pay a part of the bill so he will understand how hard money is to come by nowadays! I know he can’t pay the entire repair bill but he needs to learn the money side of things. Also I would suggest taking it to Black Diamond and put on the jig since the fuel cell is bent like it is. I know that’s a whole lot more work but then you’ll know the chassis is straight! Keep your heads up and keep up the great videos!
@talanwillisracing5910
@talanwillisracing5910 3 ай бұрын
Thank you… Black diamond told me ways to check it and all checks out good. Has far as shock mounting points and all. If it’s tweaked it’s just by fuel cell. Talan does work some for money but no way he can hold a job with no drivers license to get to and from. He does have money from being paid to race for car owners and he offered to pay half of repair and car owner said no that was part of it…

Fine line between being tough and to tough on a young man. Simmer it down a touch, if you make him feel terrible for trying his best, it defeats the purpose of racing together to make the best memories. You can tell it hurts him enough that he made a mistake. It's racing, it ain't about the money. He's got some learning to do, and so do you. Don't make him feel uncomfortable around you. You can see it in this video. Do better.

Build him up not knock him down. frankly, it’s not even a bad thing that he was running it tight because in a real life situation he’s not gonna be able to come into the pits 15 laps into a 40 lap super feature to try and rectify something. Id much rather him do this in a practice than to do this with 17 other cars on the track and possibly ruining 3 or 4 other cars plus his. One thing i do like about this is hes the one doing the work and not having 3 or 4 other people fixing it for him. He'll definitely learn from this. Itll work its way out one way or the other.

I am glad other cars wasn’t involved for sure but I’d rather him fence it in competition than practice, just because practice is for experience and making adjustments, it’s not about laying down the fastest hardest lap possible (that’s just how I see it) don’t mean it’s right! I am very proud of the work he has put in getting it back going!

With all respect to all of your comments about his dad bashing/embarrassing Talan. It’s called tough love! The sky is the limit for Talan when it comes to racing, he got this far from his parents tough love/teaching him the sport to be his best. So, I’m not sure how he embarrassed him? Was it when he asked him “what happened?”
