00:04:16 "Robbing Rocks" .. . Ha ha, I love the sound of it! I use whatever I can find last minute... grass, bricks, sticks, or even sawdust.😊

Exactly. Grab what is near by and start building😀 Way easier when in the moment then trying to install a bought device crushing bees all the way Thank you for the comment and laugh kzbin.infov_XjkslKSQs?si=VkzM4rMQBJDB4rBw

This is EXACTLY what I went through yesterday. This video was very helpful in validating my thoughts. Again, thank you for sharing.

First Winter is full of ups and downs when it comes to worry and emotions. I think you are doing great. Keep it up

Nice presentation! I'm an old beekeeper but I'm still picking up tips along the way. I've been frustrated for years over the critters knocking off the blocks of wood I use to further reduce entrances. I never considered using rocks. Going to give that a try! Thanks!

Thank you for the compliment and comment Funny thing is not often but sometimes I have found a rock moved and couldn’t figure it out but now I think I know why thanks to your “critter” comment Perhaps a skunk moving it and changing plans when they come out because my hives are “skunk distance”. Exposes their belly at 18 inches. They don’t stick around for that fight especially in robbing season Thank you

Looking good Sir!!! I just lost two out of my three hives! They had everything they needed and still left. First year keeper here. Thank you for your videos, you have helped me so much!

You are so kind and I really appreciate the feedback. Sorry for your loses. They always hurt some but it is part of beekeeping and can’t be avoided but the good news is it can be minimized I recommend preserving the equipment. I have some videos on that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHrNc42seKtgqK8si=xMMeXPDdz6MynEua The good side of things is you have gained experience and now have more then enough equipment to hopefully have a great swarm season Clean the equipment up when safe and you are absolutely sure they are dead. Preserve the equipment and set those hive body swarm traps in the early spring Thank you for the comment and support kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6rCY32fnJlgiassi=cWHg3KqxU0LyXgfw

Just added hive alive on Sunday..44 degrees and rain..not real happy with me...got careless and didn't tuck shirt in with rain jacket and bee jacket on. 1 sting left side of belly and 1 on left side of neck. Live and learn.
@fishingforbees11 күн бұрын
Yes we learn. Sometimes quickly sometimes slowly. You made me laugh because I took a belly sting one year. Ouch! The vale I wore during colony 1 being worked has been a useful piece of equipment. Able to use with a winter coat on. I have no other option because a Bee jacket isn’t going over a winter coat Thank you for the comment

I ordered a Thermocouple Meter so I can measure hive temperature to see how the colony is doing.

I thought a glass hive would solve the problem...they just make me more curious. The clusters hide the combs.

why its stupid

@RickMylbani-n2u * What we need is a tiny robot honey bee to interact within the colony to collect the information we so desire! 🤔

If you had an innercover, you could place the hive alive over the hole in the cover.
@fishingforbees8 күн бұрын
@@reneallen6405 The inner cover is above the quit box Running an inner cover below a quilt box makes the moisture absorbing benefits of the quilt box almost nonexistent Actually that is a common mistake by new beekeepers leading to wet bees because the moisture hits the inner cover and rains back on them through condensation

Looks like your bees are unable to move the dead like a dog with a big stick in his mouth trying to get out a doorway!
@fishingforbees11 күн бұрын
@@richardrbrynerjr.7912 Mortuary bees do not work in 18 degree weather. You would be surprised how many dead a mortuary bee can clean away from an entrance on the nice days. 40 degrees and raining they also are not working in. Very wise in their “risk reward” decisions Bees when warm enough will also fly off and die but we haven’t had that weather so unfortunately they die inside Dead at the entrance and on the landing board are common all winter long Thank you for the comment and observation. They do have room to climb over the dead and you can see in the video colony 4 doing just that. Eventually they will clean it up and I can give more help later visits The mesh has been used many seasons. I find it leaves enough room to still allow access when body removal isn’t happening Some purchased mouse traps are death traps because of your exact observation. The dead pile up and it chokes out the hive Thank you again for the comment. Great topic and observation. Camera work was poor. In the future I will show they still can exit
