At the Turkish Grand Prix in 2010, things got a bit frosty in the Red Bull garage as Mark Webber was implied to have caused the collision between himself and Sebastian Vettel that took Seb out the race and caused Webber to finish third with a busted car.
Then, at the British Grand Prix, more controversy as Red Bull decided to take a brand new front wing off Webber to give to Seb as his had given out through the new fast sweeper that is Abbey corner.
Then Webber won. So... All that was for nothing?
Let's have a look...
Enjoy! And remember to like and subscribe for more!

You missed one punch up between team mates that is worth mentioning. That is Tony Longhurst belting Paul Morris at Winton Raceway after they crashed. Longhurst stormed over to Morris’s car and started throwing punches through his open window. Since Morris was wearing a full face helmet it didn’t do much.

If you read Adrian Newey's book, he says something different. He said he asked Webber's engineer if they thought it was better than the old one. The engineer said it wasn't and Newey authorised taking it off Webber. Obviously Webber saw it differently (as the press conference showed) pulled an MJ, took it personally and beat Vettel straight up. Who's telling the truth? Who knows. I'm an Australian so I'm required by law to be a Webber fan but I can't see Newey lying in his own book about it
@tomnewham1269
@tomnewham1269 6 ай бұрын
Newey might be telling the truth but it still wasn't good for team morale. Obviously it was done to appease Vettel and keep him happy and stuff everyone on Webbers side of the garage. They did another similar thing in the season to appease Vettel. Webber was quicker than Vettel and Vettel couldn't work out why so RB told him there was a crack in his chassis and they swapped or gave Vettel a new chassis. I cannot remember which it was and if I remember correctly the 'cracked' chassis is the one Mark Webber owns as part of his contract he was to be given a race car. He destroyed his when he done the flip when he collided with a car that he was passing.
@M1ggins
@M1ggins 6 ай бұрын
I remember during practice Brundle talking about the new wing before either got damaged and how Vettel raved about it, but Webber didn't rate it. I never respected Webber afterwards, and later his multi 21 whining after he'd tried his best to ignore a similar order at Britain, justifying it with 'we might've been going for a win' just confirmed it.
@ianyoung1106

It wasn’t known at the time, but Webber raced most of that season with a broken shoulder. After doing the previous season with a rod holding his leg together, it was clear that he had more grit than the pampered princess. Quite the statement drive, not to mention the statement to sign off with.

Red Bull stated before the season that their drivers were equal, which was suspected bs after Turkey, and confirmed bs by the British GP. Webber also stated in his biography that right after the race in Turkey, Horner made diplomatic statements and avoided pointing fingers on any of the drivers, while Helmut Marko pointed the finger at Webber from the beginning - and then Horner suddenly joined Marko, leaving Webber to question who were really calling the shots at Red Bull

I thought Webber was the better driver of the two back in 2010 and I still believe the same today. Vettel's a nice guy don't get me wrong, but he can't cope unless EVERYTHING is going his way, the 4 time champion couldn't even hold a candle to his then-amateur team mate at Ferrari which didn't shock me at all. Much like Hamilton at McLaren, Vettel was the first of Red Bull's young driver programme so of course Red Bull was going to favour him otherwise their programme will look shit. Webber on the other hand has bags of mental strength even if his whole team is against him which that weekend proved, and was one of the last mohicans of drivers along with the likes of Button, Alonso, Raikkonen, Massa etc who didn't have manufacturer backing their entire lives with all the professional management, facilities and training you could dream of; just a father, a son, a dream, and a sponsor leaving their destiny to their own hands. Young Driver's programmes are too OP and exclusive for a driver like that to make it ever again. I know today's drivers are objectively better driving skill wise than drivers of previous generations, but there's something about figuring out your own path for yourself, taking hardships damn-near alone, and the intrinsic confidence that brings that just isn't there in the current crop, which inherently makes them less relatable. But I get it, winning is winning.

So Mattt Neal tried the Alex Tagliani/Paul Tracy fighting methods from five years before that in San Jose. That's another fight that will never not be funny. The fact CBS or whoever it was at the time let the curses slide right on by and you had a furious Tags going what the fuck, you broke my fucking car, live on network TV, and wanting to get a piece of PT (justified ad PT had rejoined and took out Tags and got called out for it by Derek Daly) will never not be funny to me. Derek Daly and the crew even referenced it in Denver when PT and Seabass collided. Paul, keep your helmet on, swiftly followed by don't do anything stupid, you are on probation. Paul later played this up in Montreal and went for a time, or the second time in three years, pure epic, epic, heel. See his 2003 season or flashes of being a heel, especially the round, Portland I believe, where he just went full on heel and still lost to Fernandez. See also the 2002 NHRA fight between Doug Herbert and Clay Millican for a third one that is always hilarious at the time but tinge with sadness due to what both went through, but to hear both narrate what led up to the fight is just awesome. As Clay puts it, he got shoved aroun, Doug got a cool nickname (that of Dougzilla)

Ferrari helped with the KARMA, asking Vettel to move over for a much faster team mate, than sacking him. LOL.

Let's face it... Webber was a midfielder who happened to be in Red Bull. The fact that he never finished a runerup as Vettel was pocketing titles is telling.

Webber had the same problem that Perez has, He thinks he is verry good but dosent have the car than he gets a verry good car and cant see that he is not that good against his upcomig teammate who is a generation Talent. Then they start accusing the team but dont see their own problems, webber did not even win a race prior to redbull. In this time he lucked out but its not that he did an impressive performance for the most part.

Those are two different cans of worms. When Perez joined RB, Max already established himself, he learned what he needed to challenge LH. Perez on the other hand was finally given a competitive car that he first had to learn to tame. Webber had been part of RB prior to Vettel even being in the sport. Vettel was therefore purely relying on his talent, while Webber relied on his experience both over the years as a whole and during his tenure at RB. Those two very different situations make for a poor comparison. Webber vs Vettel is closer to Vettel vs Ricciardo or Ricciardo vs Verstappen, than Verstappen vs Perez will ever be.

You are kidding right. No he never won, but up until that stage he had been in Minardi, Jaguar and then Williams just in time for them to hit a low point. He put in some Giant killing performances in those shit boxes. If he would only have done what Briatore wanted and gone to Renault, he may well have had some of Alonsos success. Even the Red Bull wasnt that great in the Early Years when he went there. Even then He had a couple of races in the bag and shit went wrong (like Vettel slamming into the back of him in the wet). Once the RB started to come good, Vettel turned up and was obviously the golden boy. Blind Freddy could see that. I think the team had quite a shock when Webber was able to take it to him at a point when he was probably past his prime. Webber was a gritty tough bastard who deserved better.

Webber has stated that Vettel is a better driver than him and he has said the same about Ricciardo so I don't know where you got the idea that Webber thinks he is a great driver. He has also stated he was only capable of winning one world championship which he nearly did. In the later years failed to adapt to the Pirelli tyres due to the fact they would degrade quite quickly compared to the Bridgestones that he mainly raced on in the majority of his F1 career. Webber admitted that he struggled on the slower corners while Vettel has stated that Webber was always quicker than him through fast corners. Like Webber himself said, not bad for a Number 2 driver.
