Although in the movie the spell is different, Hermione has modified the memory of her parents to protect them. She has made them believe that they don't have a daughter, that they have other personalities and that they have always wanted to go to Australia (which is exactly what they were talking about before and where they end up going) so that it will be harder for the Death Eaters to find. And if Hermione dies in the process they will live happily ever after without worries. Sometimes Harry Potter has very tragic moments

I love the dance scene. Harry only sees hermione as a friend and like a sister, theyre both only children. Harry was so sweet trying to cheer her up in a dark time. He knows how much hermione likes ron. In the book he even said to ron that he only sees her as a friend/sister. He wouldnt ever do that to ron.

The only issue is the movie makers and some of the cast had the intention of it having romantic undertones. Emma Watson said something like “it’s kinda like that awkward state in a friendship where “will they or won’t they” yknow they’re so tired and depressed that they could have very easily kissed” - except in the book that would never have happened. Both Harry and Hermione were extremely depressed and distant with each other when Ron left. Harry would spend hours just looking at Ginny on the marauders map, and the movie just casually forgot to include that.

Yeah, as someone who read the books beforehand, I interpreted it solely as a platonic display of affection. But I do understand how it could be interpreted as a "will they kiss?' kind of moment to people who had only seen the movies.

Plus Harry was clearly trying to be goofy to make her smile, not flirty because their best friend literally just left and he’s like “this is my moment”. The movies are not the books I know that but goddamn it they’re supposed to follow the plot and character moments faithfully. Otherwise what’s the point of making completely different movies?

To answer your question about Lucius Malfoy no longer in Azkaban, when Voldemort took over the Ministry of Magic, he made Pius Thicknesse the new Minister, after they killed Rufus Scrimgeour (the guy speaking at the start of the movie). He also released all of his followers who were currently locked up in Azkaban. That's how Lucius was free & allowed his home, Malfoy Manor, to be used as a meeting place & headquarters for Voldy & the Death Eaters... *Side note: the flying motorcycle originally belonged to Sirius Black, who gave it to Hagrid.

Yep, that's right, Harry is the owner of the Invisible Cloak because he is a descendant of the three youngest brothers, namely Ignotus Paverall. And it turns out that Voldemort is also a Peverall descendant from his second brother, Cadmus Peverall, which means Harry and Voldemort are distantly related.

Bill delivering the news of Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody's death is worse when you know that their actors, Brendan and Domnhall Gleason, are father and son in real life. Also: Voldemort wasn't hating on Lucius' wand. Lucius fell out of favor with Voldemort because he failed to deliver the Prophecy in Order Of The Phoenix. Side note: if you don't recognize the actor who played Rufus Scrimgeour, that's Bill Nighy, also known as Viktor from Underworld and Davy Jones from the 2nd and 3rd Pirates Of The Caribbean movies.

The reason Kreacher was acting differently towards Harry than he did to Hermione is because Sirius not only left Grimauld Place (the former headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix) to Harry in a will but Harry also inherited Kreacher as well. As a result Kreacher is magically bound to obey Harry. Harry never freed Kreacher because Dumbledore asked Harry not to due to Kreacher knowing way to much about The Order of the Phoenix secret group. When Harry found out about Regelus Black being R.A.B Kreacher told Harry about how Regelus use to be a Deatheater during the first war. But one day Regelus found out that Voldemort was using his favorite house elf to experiment on when he was creating the evil magical defenses in the cave where the Slytherin locket was originally located. When Kreacher told Harry about how he was tortured by Voldemort and how Regelus sacrifice himself to save Kreacher, Harry felt sorry for Kreacher to the point that he gifted Kreacher the fake Slytherin locket that use to belong to Regelus. From that moment on Kreacher changed his attitude not only towards Harry but he began to be kind to Hermione and Ron as well. 📿🪄

The Deathly Hallows: "The Tale of the Three Brothers" seems like a fairy story but is actually oral history. It is believed that the Peverell brother with the invisibility cloak is a long-ago ancestor (long ago) to James Potter and one with he Resurrection stone is a long-ago ancestor of Tom Riddle. Not sure about the one with the elder wand. He may have died without offspring but even if not, they wouldn't have inherited the wand since it went with the one who defeated that brother. Notice the Peverell grave near James'.

I'm so grateful for the included deleted scenes. Most specifically the taboo placed on anyone saying Voldemort's name. The thought is that the only people that would dare say his name are likely opposition.

I don't think I've seen anyone else react to the extended version. That bit about the taboo is essential in my mind, to understand how they got caught exactly. The book had Ron telling Harry about it later, after he came back from Bill's (where he stayed when he left the group), and actually had Harry mess up and say the name, but the essential part is there.

Voldemort could not defeat him because of the wand and also because of his mother's sacrifice spell. That is also the reason why he had to stay with his uncles or at least for a while in the summer. because Dumbledore linked the sacrificial spell to the mother's blood so as long as he could call that place home he would be safe because of Lily's blood living in Petunia. At least until he reached the magical age of adulthood (17) PS: I would like to say all the things that were missing but I don't want to go into spoilers and I don't think you want to spend hours reading comments about everything the movies didn't do hahahaha😂

@@Rcmkney23 yes, but that protects Harry more than Voldemort. When Harry tells Dumbledore that Voldemort took his blood in the Goblet in the book it says: "There was a gleam of something like triumph in Dumbledore's eyes." And there's something else I can't say without getting into spoilers.

Draco's redemption arc continues. Sitting in his childhood home at the dining table he ate at his whole life, next to his father who brought this murderous madman into Malfoy Manor, Draco is having a hard think about his father and what his father has exposed Draco and his mother Narcissa to. Draco is taking in what time in Azkaban has done to his father and how terrified Lucius is of Voldemort. I have to wonder if Draco regrets making fun of Harry when Harry had been attacked by Dementors at age 13. Draco heard Ollivander screaming in pain in their cellar; he heard Voldemort bark at Wormtail to keep Ollivander quiet. And yes, Draco watched one of his teachers tortured, murdered, and fed to a snake on the table where he grew up eating his breakfast. Draco is watching his mother Narcissa trying to recede into the background and hold her poker face. When the Order comes to move Harry, did you catch Tonks calling Lupin 'husband'? She wanted to share the news that she was pregnant with Lupin's child, who they will name Ted. Note: Bellatrix is one of three sisters born into the Black Family. Narcissa, mother of Draco, is one of the sisters. Andromeda, mother of Tonks, is the other. If you remember the Black Family Tree mural in Sirius's townhouse, Andromeda and Sirius both had their pictures burnt out by Sirius's mother for refusing to be prejudicial over blood purity. Andromeda had fallen in love and married a muggle named Ted Tonks. Bill Weasley is there to help move Harry with his fiancé Fleur Delacour (from the TriWizard Tournament, who Ron had lusted after). Backstory on Mundungus Fletcher: Mundungus is a common thief in the Wizarding World. Dumbledore interceded in some trouble Mundungus was facing and so earned Mundungus's loyalty. Dumbledore relied on him to run errands and collect intell during the First Wizarding War, but once Dumbledore died, so did Mundungus's loyalty. He should not have been there to help move Harry. He rode with Mad-Eye Moody, but disapparated (teleported) the moment the Death Eaters attacked, contributing to Moody's death. Mundungus isn't 'bad', he just doesn't consider this his fight. He's on nobody's side but his own, and he was forced to be there. I used to manufacture prostheses (artificial limbs) for a living; I'm impressed that they provided Mad-Eye Moody a recumbent broomstick to accommodate his leg loss up to the hip. With that kind of loss, he wouldn't be able to sit on a regular broomstick. Details! The Order had to hide Harry among 'duplicates' to move him because he's not quite 17 yet, so the Ministry still has the Trace on him. Hermione turned 17 in September, Ron in March, and the day of the wedding reception Harry turns 17. Now you learn why there's such reluctance to speak Voldemort's name. During the First Wizarding War, when Harry was a baby 16 years previously, Voldemort had his followers infiltrate the Ministry of Magic. While there, they made Voldemort's name a Taboo using the Trace as a guide. Voldemort's followers call him 'The Dark Lord', so anyone saying 'Voldemort' is an obvious enemy. So, with the Taboo, saying 'Voldemort' alerts the Death Eaters, who immediately show up and make the speaker sorry. Whether you or your loved ones are kidnapped, tortured, or killed, it is traumatic to have this happen. Now that we are in the Second Wizarding War, 'Voldemort' is once again Taboo. You see this when the name is mentioned in the coffeeshop and at the Lovegood home. You'll notice Umbridge has a cat Patronus at her right hand, and that it's keeping the Dementors up in the ceiling of the Interrogation Room. The fact that Umbridge has a Patronus means she is NOT a Death Eater. Umbridge is not a supporter of Voldemort; she just flourishes in the environment Voldemort creates. Notice as well that, when Harry knocks Umbridge out, her Patronus disappears and the Dementors are released. The Trio went into hiding the night of Harry's birthday, July 31st. Harry and Hermione go to Godric's Hollow on Christmas Eve, almost 5 months later. Ron returns shortly after. Dumbledore's Patronus is not a stag; it's a phoenix. Voldemort doesn't need to be 'master of death'; he made six horcruxes. But he DOES want the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand in the world. It will help him kill Harry. Voldy is obsessed with killing Harry by use of a wand. Blood purity is actually a bad thing in the Wizarding World. The population of wizards/witches is so small that there is a constant danger of inbreeding. Intermarrying with muggles is actually what will save the Wizarding World. Bellatrix is a prime example of inbreeding; her genetics make her incurably insane.

Hearing Emma scream like that in the scene with Bellatrix, makes me cry. While I know they’re all acting, I’m genuinely afraid for her and to hear Hermoine be asslted like that just makes me sick. It’s the fact that people like Bellatrix exist IRL that makes it even more sickening. They did a great job as actors though.

Even those of us who also read the books were surprised at the ending. I read the books first and then watched the movies. I don't usually comment so I don't give stuff away. I am 60+ years old and reread the books and rewatch the movies all the time. It will become so clear in movie #8. Hang in there. One more to go. Love your reactions.

27:59- Hermione is one of the smartest wizards ever, and this makes her one of the best witches of all time. I noticed that all of the deleted scenes were in this version. Some people would think they were watching a completely different film. 33:40- They were basically siblings throughout the books, so these comments are hilarious. Ron also just couldn’t come back, he didn’t know where they were- or where they were going. 38:07- Hermione will always be the better and quicker spell caster and no that was the bedroom of the kid next door. The snake knocked him through the wall.

I was kinda bummed to not see some of my favorite moments in this, but I understand that copyright is a bitch, and editing sacrifices have to be made. Really looking forward to the conclusion (and possibly the reunion, if you're interested of course, but I can promise you that it's absolutely worth a watch). They're not remaking the movies. They're making a new series based on the same books, and hopefully will follow the books more closely. Now if J. K. Rowling wrote backstories for more of the side characters, that would be nice, so long as she stayed true to her original plot.

Well actually the power of the twin wands was somehow still in effect despite the fact that Voldemort was not using one of the twin wands. That's why Harry's wand acted on its own and defended him with that gold fire. It's a fact that has never really made sense to me, but it is what Rowling wrote.

Just to give a little more about the Three Brothers, Antioch was the eldest (wand), Cadmus the middle (stone), and Ignotus (cloak) was the youngest. Slytherin, Voldemort, Harry, and the 3 brothers were all related. You figure from there.

I gotta tell you. I’m 25, I haven’t watched television, movies, Netflix, Hulu, etc. in about 5 years. I just find it’s better for me in general. Now I couldn’t imagine having that constant (what feels like a) time suck around. There actually wasn't much missing from the book for this film. This is in my opinion the single strongest adaptation in the entire series, in terms of how thorough and faithful to the original text it is. It's almost a page for page translation of the first half of the last book. I'm really glad they split it into two parts, because unlike the other books where there was a lot of filler they could cut out to streamline the main plot, Deathly Hallows was an incredibly dense book that almost nothing could be justly cut from. But as for what IS absent....probably the only real significant thing is Harry reading sections of The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore by Rita Skeeter, which gives a ton of backstory to Dumbledore and expands our understanding of the character more than the rest of the series combined. It's where almost everything we know about Dumbledore comes from, outside of what was directly observed through Harry's interactions with him, including his apparent romantic feelings/relationship with Grindelwald, and his family life growing up. Next to that, I think there was only one chapter that was omitted entirely, which involved Harry wandering off from one of their camping spots, and stumbling across a small group of vagabonds, including a goblin and someone Harry went to school with. Harry doesn't approach them, he just listens in on their conversation and I think that's how he learns about Snape being headmaster, among other things. It mostly acts as an exposition dump for Harry, who is otherwise cut off from the world, catching him up on the state of things, and giving more context to what life was proving to be like for some people during Voldemort's rise to power, particularly mudbloods and "lesser" magical beings" who were left running from their own government. That's all I can think of, other than any of the many series-spanning subplots that never made it into the films in the first place.

This happens to be my favorite film in the series next to Prisoner of Azkaban, so I was more than happy to talk about it for a bit. Like you said it has such a different feeling from the other movies, from the magical antics they get in at school and whatnot. Much more rooted in the everyday world and reality we are familiar with. Looking forward to the finale!!
