I remember this the first time round and it's still very funny. Everyone got insulted and made fun of, black, gay, the womaniser etc...... And that's the point, back in the day we were all the butt of jokes because we all have characteristics that comedians can use as material. In effect we were laughing at others but also ourselves too. Note Hylda even did the big t*ts joke woman to woman. She was very clever, I doubt there are many actors who could pull off such a performance today. I'm sure some people will be offended but you have to remember, these were some of the first TV shows which actually had gay characters on a TV show. It was opening up cultures which had existed for centuries and putting them in popular entertainment. Great to see this again.

@jamesm.taylor69285 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think people are so miserable today because a large number grew up hearing nothing but how special they are, how they know all and are never, can never be mistaken or wrong, and how entitled they are. Then they venture out into the real world and are given a high six figure job as CEO, or something similar befitting their person, are told they actually have to show up at certain times and do actual work throughout the day, in fact nobody is handing them anything they want when they want it because they want it. No one IS TREATING THEM AS SPECIAL AS THEY ARE!!! Worse they're far too stupid to figure out why. So they just never leave home where they're treated as they are convinced they deserve and demonstrate for communism and ANTIFA on the streets, as well as best people up--as long as they are defenseless old women they outnumber 6 to 1 or so, those 80 year old women can be vicious after all you know...

@howardkerr81744 жыл бұрын
@do br Don't get me wrong, a good actor, a good comedian can "mask" when they miss a cue, get a line wrong, plain ad-lib. I only had a problem when she improvised with words Americans are not familiar with. From some of the Britcoms that I have managed to find on KZbin it seems as though the British didn't have too many boundaries or taboos when it came to the situations in comedy, it was the actual language that came in for a lot of scrutiny from censors.

I used to go into a pub just like this in Shepherd's Bush, West London, in the 1980s: run by a Scot and a real mix of different people including gay men - everybody got on and we had some great nights there. The landlord used to close the curtains at closing time and we'd continue drinking and some of the local police would drop in for a late night drink as they knocked off their shift. Very different era.
