Making wands is probably the most versatile exercise on the lathe, everything is there!!

Holding it like that to avoid chatter is crazy. I like it!

Very nice. Would do all the details on the top or heavy side first then go to the slim side. I also made my own carbide tools. It’s nice to use round stock instead of the square bar you are using. You can swing it on a 45 better.

I've tried doing skinny spindle work with my carbide tools. Did you get a bunch of vibration?

I've never worked with Carbides, but in the case of HSS tools, vibration can be either too high a speed on your lathe, too aggressive cuts with tools or both. Maybe one of these are the causes of your vibration?

Also you may not have centered the wood on lathe. If it's not centered it will vibrate in beginning.

All I'm sayin is that if you don't want to shatter your work piece or your tools, you need to move the tool rest in as close as possible throughout. Having it that far away from what your turning is a good way to get severely injured.

Your project turned out great but it would be nice if you would learn how to use your tools correctly. It will help your work go better and prevent unwanted problems in the future.
